ive just gone to change my rear tyre and found the rim lock has seen better days so thought best to order new rather than keep this one going but im not sure what size I need? I will probably buy a new one for the front as well so what size for both??

bike is 2006 ec 250
many thanks

Didnt realise it was stamped on the rim!!!
Thanks as ever for your help

im properly skint atm and have tubes already in my garage so no chance of tubiless yey!

Stay away from the motion pro rim locks. Went to change my tires and noticed they both had broken

Funny you mention that, I was changing a tire the day before yesterday and found a broken (rubber separated from aluminum) motion pro rimlock. It was 4+ years old and had seen countless tire changes so no big deal. I have had rim locks from Parts Unlimited and STI break while installing, brand new, right out of the package, so I wouldn't blame motion pro. The stud seems to be consistently longer on the motion pro's vs other brands which makes mounting tires slightly easier too. I'll keep buying them. I can only speak towards the aluminum/ rubber ones though, I have no experience with their "lite loc."

I have had good luck with the regular Motion Pro locks also. I have no experience with the plastic ones.

After having a flat rear today and the rim ended up spinning in the tyre shearing the tube valve so I think it is time for a new rim lock as well, but I was wondering if one rim lock is enough as it was suggested to me today to put a second one in.

What do you guys generally do?? Is one enough or do people fit a second??

In my case the one that was in there wasn't in good shape so maybe a decent new one should do the trick, what do you think???

Did the sheared valve stem happen before or after the tire spun? I had a valve stem fail, causing a flat (obviously), but I don't think the tire spun. It was caused by me running too low of a pressure (like, zero) and the tube itself walked around inside the tire, causing the valve stem to vacate the premises.

I would confirm the tire spun before adding extra weight of the second rim lock, unless you are running a trials tire with ultra-low single digit tire pressure.

The bike is an EC300 with enduro tyres with 18 psi. I was doing a Cross Country event which was a mixture of forest lanes, woodland areas rocky river beds and some boggy areas, so it was a mixture of everything. I guess the tyre got nipped in the river beds as the where lots of rocks. I'll try to inflate the tube a bit this evening, which may be difficult without a valve stem, to see if it is nipped...

I run 2 rim locks in each wheel on all of my "big" bikes. The only reason I really do this is so that I can ride a flat tire when necessary. Having 2 rim locks and UHD tubes makes riding a flat totally manageable. Some will tell you to run 2 of them to help balance the tire (which it will help) but that is not really a concern offroad and on the 1 set of wheels that I do balance (on my dualsport), they still take a few ounces of weight even with 2 rim locks mounted opposite of each other (as close to straight across from each other as possible.)

...I even had a bike way back in the 1900's ;) that had 3 rimlocks in the rear (was like that when I got it), talk about a pain to change that tire!

If you are that concerned with flats, skip the Tubliss and go straight to a mousse or tire balls.

It's a couple of rim locks for me I think. I inflated the tube this evening and it wasn't nipped so the wheel spun in the tyre causing the flat in the first place.

The existing rim lock was in poor shape as it was and probably didn't offer much resistance to the spin so I'l get at least one new one and will probably put two in to be sure...
