I seen a good amount of spanish steel at the start,I was checking boxes. How did you finish, how was the ride and how did your GGs perform?

my 300 performed beautifully, started row 6 and made short work of a messy course, very wet with not too much snow on the ground, lost my footpeg around the 11mile mark, had to ride one footed till gas(25 mile mark) lost some precious time there, put on a replacement peg and used a handguard end bolt and a lock nut,no spring, but it held up fine, and was so pissed about the peg,I was flying through the second half, ended up dropping 24 points losing A-hipoint by emergency seconds(about 45)but ended up 1st A Heavy,as hi-point came out of my class,Grand Champion dropped 12 for the O/A Im pretty sure I finished 8th O/A!! great start for me this year

My '03 300 was great, as it always is. I, however, was not. LOL !
It was great to put in a full day though. This winter has been soooo slow.
I really feel my age when I'm not riding...and on Mondays after I ride.

My gasser was great. I had a blast in the snow and mud. little sore today but not too bad. I ended up with a 4th in my stacked class. The B-HP was a 32 and I ended up with a 5th in the B class with a 35. Over all I feel pretty good for not riding since the end of the season.

Congrats guys.

I chose to go skiing instead! Did anyone get hit by that snow squall?

You guys had a much better day than I did. Just after the start it started raining while going down the first road section. Hippo-hands are great for cold weather, but when they get wet and soggy they're useless. Being wet and cold meant a slow start for me, dropping 6 points in the first test section.

In one of the off-road transfer sections, I tagged a tree and went over the bars. Felt some pain in my side, but it wasn't enough to make me stop. Started getting into a groove in the second test section until I got to the spot where everyone was stuck. While navigating around all the half-buried bikes and crashed riders the front wheel got stuck in a deep rut. Spent a ton of energy lifting the bike out. Tried making up some of my lost time, but tagged a rock with my foot breaking a toe. Perhaps it's time for new boots, no?

My bike was idiling way high, so I spent a few minutes at the gas stop readjusting the idle speed before heading back out. Hit the third test section and started getting into a good groove. Around mile 50, going through some nasty terrain, the bike made a strange noise and died. Tried to re-light the motor, but all it did was make a strange noise. My buddy pulled up and asked what was wrong with my seat. Turns out the subframe snapped in two places. The carburetor boot pulled back from the reed block which meant no air-fuel was entering the motor. Broke open the fanny-pack and with the help of two magical zip-ties I managed to redneck-engineer it back together.

By now I was way late and didn't feel like going another 8-miles on the pegs to the next check. I figured since there were only 12 check boxes on the scorecard and that six of them were filled, I'd at least made half the checks... wrong! That only added insult to riding 10-miles back on the road soaking wet in temperatures just above freezing, for a solid lock on last place in B-Senior. At least my Trellies don't look too bad and the bike should be back together before my body heals.

Hopefully I can make it to the Tri-State in May. Being on Mother's Day and a week before the Black Fly (CATRA) H/S (I volunteered to trail boss this year) might make getting a kitchen pass next to impossible.

Sorry you had such a tough day but...thanks !
I think I would have been last-place B-Senior if it weren't for you. LOL !

holy cow bill glad your ok,it sounds like you didnt pre-enter,as there were no stoppers up front,we started on row 6,and only three guys got by me in the morning, brooks, jay W. and neil D. after gas, Brooks,Jay W. and pete T. snuck by me and I chased them to the end,

I was catching up to you, yellow 300 with VT plate, when my bike quit.

Pre-enter... what's that??? Actually I waited too late before deciding to go (translation: I submitted my request for a kitchen pass too late).

You guys should come race the Black Fly H/S on 5/18. It'll be the most fun you can have with your pants on... that day. There may even be an adult-beverage or six for members of the Gasser crew.

Hey Bill,

Heal fast and buy boots! I just dropped coin on new SG10s today as I was afraid of that happening to me. I plan on being up there that weekend, my 6 yr old will make his pee wee debut on a PW50. We went to Grassy Knoll just to check it out last fall and like the NETRA kids program a lot better than ECEA. I hope and pray the kid likes it, then I have Cart Blanch! I'll stick around for the HS on Sunday. I have a big, off road pop-up, how's the camping?

glenn do you remember when you went to that race? was it very dusty? I raced the grassy knoll on my IT in the vintage class, they cut us short because the dust was soooo bad! pretty sure they had two races at that location

Last September, major dust bowl, but it was dry the week or so before. I didn't race, just took the kids up on Sat to see the peewee race. Even with the dust I liked the fact that the little kids are on the course with only other kids of similar ability and size bikes, unlike ECEA where they try to do everything in one day and the beginning 5 yr. olds on PW50s end up on the course with fast aggressive 9 yr olds on 65s, not good IMO.

Glenn - Glad to hear you'll be making the trek this way. The camping is, well, primative. I renamed out hare scramble the Black Fly for a reason. They're usually not too bad in mid-May, but don't leave home without the bug spray. Of course I'll be the one pulling what's left of my hair out.

We have probably the only NETRA Pee Wee track that is all trail. It's a pretty easy trail with only a couple rocks and almost no elevation change. Being that we're so far from the core of NETRA our Pee Wee scramble doesn't have a huge attendance. Those who do make the trek always say how well run it is and the kids like it because they're riding "real" trails.

Right now I'm trying to convince my other half to let me buy a pee wee bike for my oldest. He'll be 6 in March. So far I've managed to chisel her down from "no way in Hell" to "once he's 10" to "maybe when he's 7". He's already got all the gear except boots... and a bike.

I just got the green light to buy my soon to be 7y/o daughter a bike. It was easy once my daughter said over and over that all she wants is a dirt bike for her birthday. Mission accomplished. I have a nice used XR50 sitting in my basement waiting for her birthday...it should be a fun spring. Maybe we will have to check out some peewee events in the future.

My youngest that will race will actually be 6 in March as well. I'm working with him regularly, and he shows promise. He can deal with small rocks and any climb that the PW is capable of. If his attitude is good that day he should do well. My older son will be 9 in March too. He has a KLX110 but would rather play the common sports with his friends. It kills me that his best friend lives in a PERFECT location for riding but his Mom (one of my wife's friends) is a PIA that hates bikes and has the kid brainwashed. Dad is a, well, has no say.:D My wife is cool, no problem with the kids riding or racing, as she rides herself occasionally ('02 GG 250 Pampera). I used to be a big time shipwreck diver, and thats the one thing she won't encourage if the kids ask about it.

It's been a struggle. Back in college one of my wife's sorority sister lost part of her leg in a motorcycle crash. Add in those times she's hauled my butt to the ER and a summer of mowing the lawn after I had ACL replacement, left her with one of those "motorcycles are evil" attitudes. Fortunately she seems to be giving in. What's worked for me is people giving me equipment that their kids have outgrown. Plus I've stopped pressing the issue. Also one of her friends, who's kids ride, is working on her as well.

Of course the day she mentioned something about maybe getting the kids a little quad I almost blew a gasket.

I'm planning to get my three year old going on an OSET electric trials bike. I tout the benefits of no heat, no gas, no noise, no messy oil, etc. I can dial in the max speed too. I have a theory that it's the lack of sustained forward velocity (and gyroscopic reaction) which makes it difficult for a child to ride a pedal bike. So I'm hoping that a motorized bike will get Evan up and riding on his OSET before he gets proficient on a pedal bike. Fingers crossed (and bandages close at hand  ).

I wish the dist-14 guys would put somthing on like this, looks like a lot of fun and what better way to keep the carb from gumming up. Don

True dat. Turns, etc. at slow speeds are tough on a bicycle if you don't have the foresight and strength to get the pedals in the right spot at the right time.
My daughter progressed much quicker on her Razor electric dirtbike. She's on a CRF70 now, and loving it.
