special edition question

I have a 2001 250 SE
I was told these bikes were special edition - usually ordered by the dealer through GasGas

I picked the bike up and went through the chassis got it back together and listed it up for sale.

I had one call on it - which come to find out was awesome because I got some history on the bike
I was told that the original owner ordered this bike through GasGas and when he ordered it he had it set up for himself when he ordered it
The dealer I guess also told this person that the the Special Edition bikes were not a very common bike for dealers to get it in unless requested.. and that not too many of these bikes were sold through their dealership - so too me sounds like this could be a rather rare GG -

looking for some peoples input that knows the different years of the bikes

One thing I was recently told was that on SE bikes that they usually had a tag on the down tube - this bike does not have one - but has a place that looks like it was there?

thanks

Usually the only actual difference is graphics and suspension. Maybe the goodies on them but other than that they are quite standard. Parts availability is not an issue.

I had a 2001 SE 250.

Options from the factory.
Ohlins Forks.
WER steering dampner.
SE graphics.
Owner's name plate on the right side down tube.
Higher compression head.
Gold DID U rims.

How do I check head?
and Yep on the rims

forgot to mention the FMF exhaust set up - matching hand guards

so question is were these common in the states? or did people mimic the bike n create look alikes?
So basically its a not a gem in the rough then

thanks guys

Oh yeah, forgot the hand guards.
They were common in the southern states where Gas Gas sales were booming.

Send a PM to Jim Cook....he is pretty familiar with the SE models.

This is funny, I was going through some older files, and I came across some sales literature from 2001, I have the original 2001SE sales brochure.

I was going to throw it away! Does anyone need it?
