Stolen 07 EC300 - What to replace it with?

Unfortunately after much fiddling and getting it running right, some arsehole stole my 07 EC300. Not insured either.

Trying to work out what to replace it with. I like slow technical riding. Am still pretty newb so it doesn't have to be fancy. I'd prefer something I'm not afraid of dropping and scratching.

I saw someone selling a 2013 300R for $5000NZD recently. It sold within a day. What's the R mean?

Do I try and find another older EC300? Get a Beta XTrainer? Other thoughts?

Sorry for you loss mate. Thieves should be castrated with a blunt spoon. My thoughts on the x trainer are is it a awesome package which is very much let down by terrible suspension. It feels downright unsafe compared to proper forks at any speed above third gear.

Yeah I completely agree with you re Xtrainer suspension. Mate of mine has one, loves on the tight stuff but hates it at speed.

Thieves man, how can you justify stealing someones bike like that? It wasn't even worth that much. But worth a lot to me. I'd prefer it if they had taken my car. I'll be lining up behind your spoon with a rusty fork and a blowtorch.

I don?t know if you have tried cutting things with a spoon but it may take me a while so I hope you are patient! 🤣

Revenge is a dish best served cold. I have all the time in the world.

But back on topic. What are you riding? Anything else light and nimble?

That blows. Insurance on dirtbikes isn't worth it, the market isn't aimed for non registered bikes.

Insurance on my 2018 is not bad at all, around $300 a year full insurance and $500 worth of accessories.
Ride a new 2018 on Gasser/Rieju Mr300. Brilliant light flickable bike. New Beta 300rr?s are very nice too but average suspenders.

That looks a lot like the one in my lockup under the house. Been there a while though.

Good luck, it might get left somewhere when they realise they haven't stolen a *onda.

I did keep an eye on that, but price seemed to be going a bit high pretty quickly, and it would have been a pain to get it south from the other end of the country.

Any thoughts on this? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/motorbikes/dirt-bikes/listing/2958173690
I'm in Taranaki at the moment, so easy to look at it. However it's been lowered which I don't need, how hard to put it back to stock?

Also hasn't had as much work on it compared to my old one which I paid $3200 for.

Also considering waiting for a nicer something with e-start turns up, but not many GG's around in NZ it seems!

The lowering is likely done by putting spacers in the inside of the shock and forks. Can be reversed but you are paying for a few hours work. They may have softened it for a chick.

250s tend to be more mx-y in power than a 300, but its relative. Haven't tried one with the jetting sorted.

I'd always want to get back on a 300.

Took it for a bit of a ride around their paddocks today. Fantastic to get on a dirt bike again! I've missed it!

Wasn't technical enough terrain to really feel the difference between the 250/300. She said it had a LOT more power after it was re jetted, but she wasn't sure what the new jets are. It needed the choke to start, even when warmed up.

With the 250, and the lowered, and at the wrong end of the country, and no work done on the top end/piston that she knows of, I'm probably better waiting for something more suitable I guess. Unless I got it for a steal.

I just haven't seen much coming up for sale on Trademe etc. If i was looking for something with e-start and also good and slow and nimble what other models would you suggest?

* EC300 again, maybe a 2011 with e-start?
* EC300 2012 avoid right?
* EC300 2013 onwards - hope something with estart turns up?

* Beta Xtrainer - Avoiding due to suspension issues at speed
* Beta RR300's - What are these like?
* Husqvarna 2T 300 (I assume a TE). Rode my neighbours a while ago. Felt too aggressive compared to my EC300 for the technical riding I enjoy.
* KTM something? Or the other usual brands? Anything to look for or avoid? I'm just not familiar enough with them yet.

I haven't ridden any if those. Heres some things to consider.

Electric starts on dirtbikes are tack ons. Roadbikes were developed with them. As a result dirty starts are weak and run dry. At 10years old they are unlikely to work or for long if they still do.

Early huskys are based on very old cagivas I was told by an owner. Newer ones are white ktm. Betas are supposed to be very capable but with pretty average suspension. I've heard they aren't very robust . The newer ones moreso. But that is just talk. I'd be doing some good research online to check it out.

All the gasers in our group, about 10 of all cc and years have been reliable.

Yeah I'd love another GG, I just can't find any :'(

Was looking at a 2015 Husky TE300, neighbour confirms he loves his, and could probably detune it a bit. But yeah still keeping my eyes open.

G2 throttle or throttle cam of some sort (i think motion pro makes one might work. Changes rate of throttle opening - mellows the bike out. I have had one on my 2002 since i bought it. i'd kill myself otherwise.
