Nice to hit the street now and then. We keep a street bike of some kind around the house for the wife and daughter to ride. Then I get to sneek out on it now and then too.

Itching to go for a ride... -39C here today! Driving out to the coast tomorrow and thinking of loading up the Superduke but that means I would have to shovel a ton of snow just to get it out and in to the truck.

I've owned three Triumphs and have loved everyone of them.

How do you like the Thruxton? I was thinking about picking one up for my wife. Either that or the Scrambler?

I love the Thruxton.

I had been looking at used classic bikes for many months. There's a lot of junk out there, and everybody thinks their basket case will make a great project bike. Shows like Cafe Racer TV have caused people to hack apart perfectly good classics, meanwhile driving the asking prices up. And I was more interested in riding than I was in getting into a big bike building project.

One day I was walking through Libby's on the way to get some dirt bike parts, and there she was. I saw the Thruxton and decided it was a no-excuses motorcycle. I thought about it for a month or so, went back, and they were sold out for 2013. I almost went Scrambler, but really wanted the Thruxton. So, I found one at a lesser dealer and bought it.

I ride with some british bike guys now and then. At least one of them has traded his Thruxton for a Scrambler saying it's a more practical bike in every way. I'm sure the more relaxed riding position has something to do with that.

It's not especially fast or light. But it's fast enough for me, and handles well in the corners. It's got nice lumpy power down low, but likes to rev and sounds like a sewing machine.
It is also a crowd pleaser. Maybe the best attribute of the Thruxton is its universal appeal. Harley guys like it, sport bike guys like it, classic bike people like it, little old ladies even like it. It crosses all the boundaries.

Quality seems pretty good so far, after 4,000 miles/~6 months.

Fuel economy is not impressive at ~38mpg. Your mileage may vary.

Now I'm thinking big adventure bike, or something more suited for touring. Not sure which. But I'd keep the Thruxton too.
