hi
trying to sort out the lihgts on my 09 gasser previous owner removed them for hare and hounds event got all / most stuff but wiring diagrams in manual are rubbish.http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l488/barton8/voltageregulator_zpsa0069e73.jpg
is this the voltage regulator and if so were does it get wired in.

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l488/barton8/wirefrommagneto_zps9426aec4.jpg
this is the wire from the magneto ( yellow) should this show 12volts when engine is running. what getss connected to this, every yellow wire.

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l488/barton8/framewiring_zps022a50ea.jpg
DO I JUST RECONNECT ALL YELLOW TO YELLOW, BLACK TO BLACK ETC

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l488/barton8/wiringfromvapour_zps01007554.jpg
this is the back of the vapor dash i have four connection from the dash but only seem to have two connectors that fit it. one is a connector with a black and a red wire which fit and match a plug in the main harness the other goes to what looks like a speed or temp sensor, the cable lead on the fender in the pic.

http://i1120.photobucket.com/albums/l488/barton8/relay_zps678fe8ef.jpg
looks like a relay would this be for the horn, were does the horn mount,

any pics or help would be really apprecaited

The diagrams are pretty accurate actually, you just have to study them awhile.

Yes. Black bolts to frame for ground, yellow gets plugged into yellow that should be close to where it bolts on to. Which is right side, under the tank behind rad shroud. Looking at your other wire picture, it looks like you cut the ends off and now it's hard for me to distinguish which one goes to stator yellow and which one goes to VR yellow.

No. It will be somewhere about 6-9V if I remember correctly. White is full 12V.

Basically. Again it's hard to tell with the ends cut off exactly which wires you have there.

My Trail tech only has two wires but it is a different model. One wire should go down to wheel sensor. One should be for 12V power so it doesn't run on the battery. Looks like the extra wires could be for temp and/or rpm sensors. I doubt your bike has those.

I have a US model without a horn, sorry can't help there. It's definitely a relay, more than likely for the horn.

If you have other questions ask, I'll do my best to help if I can.

Thanks mike,
The previous owner cut the harness so im picking up the pieces.
The diagrams in the book have very small lettering so difficut to check colours.
So if I was to take the yellow wire from the magneto and attach it to the yellow from the headlight with light earthed to the frame I should have a circuit and illuminate the bulb, but were does the voltage regulator go..
I assume that if all conectors were on the harness that the yellow from the regulator would just be piggy backed to all the yellows and just produce a drain on the system not to over charge at high rpm and blow bulbs.
The wire with the sensor on the dashboard as a screw thread on it but cant see any where on the fork legs to attach it. And should there be a magnitic pick up on / in the wheel

The .pdf manual is much easier to read, you can zoom in. The 2009 is on page 3 I think.

The regulator should have had a plug that mated to it so it was obvious where it plugged in. It's a shame the previous owner cut it off.

The yellow from the stator plugged into one of the yellows going to the headlight and the VR plugged into another one. Both had corresponding plugs so it was obvious which one plugged where. So without being able to trace the wires in person I can't really say from a picture which one goes where. You might have strip that insulation loom back and look that way.

Found a single yellow wire with a black sheath on it im pretty sure that this is thevwire to join to the one from the magneto, all the other yellows seem to then just join together same with the blacks ( all earth ) and purple straight through for rear light and the whites are for brake light switches to the brake light. Looks as if the previous owner as disconnected the leads were there were connectors but just cut the harness in the middle.

Got lights and horn working, there are two wires goming out of the ecu ( orange and a brown ) these have been joined together I thing they are the map switch wires which have been connected because I dont have a switch to change the maps

Good news man. Out of the CDI that orange would be for the map switch. Are you sure the other is brown? Brown is usually a turn signal wire on these bikes. Black is the other wire out of the CDI that goes to the map switch on my bike.

You may be correct Coop not looked properly. Haven t got a map switch so going to try and wire a Honda starter / kill switch. Use the starter button as a kill switch and the engine stop / start as the map switch. When the circuit is closed is that map on or off.
