Wanted, newer 2 map 2k2 ignition.

I have an 01 XC with the low watt lighting coil ignition and want to try the newer programmable one. Not sure what year it became a 2 map, not even sure what it's called, think it's a 2k2?

What I need is as much lighting capacity as I can get to run a 100 watt HID headlightd and led street legal kit. I think I need to get the newer ignition and then have it rewound? Is there a better way to get where I need to go? Frankly I'm a little lost on the best way to do it.

Thanks, Jeff.

2K-2 is smaller diameter, lighter flywheel with 40W stator. 2K-3 is larger diameter, heavy flywheel with 80W stator. The dual map CDI started showing up on some '05s and was stock on '06s. I don't recall if the older wiring harnesses will plug directly in to the dual map CDIs.

Dave, thanks. I don't really NEED the dual map, but kind of wanted to try it out. I may be able to have my stock one rewound, but not sure if the output potential is the same as a newer 2k3? The dual map seems like a great idea for my terrain which is very technical, but then open and fast in places too. That said, my primary goal is lighting.

Thanks for the input. This stator/lighting stuff is new to me, as are GasGas bikes. It seems that you can swap almost anything to any bike of similar year, model not so specific. I really like that fact.

I tossed this thread out in case I can score a good priced one that will suit my needs.

The absolute BEST thing about this site is someone, or several someones, will explain the facts to me within a few days, usually hours so I can buy what I need. Most helpful website I've ever used, not just bike sites but any site.

The CDI has nothing to do with the stator/flywheel type(2K-2 or 2K-3), they are interchangeable. The newer CDIs ('07+) have a multi-pin connector where prior used discrete wires and bullet connectors. Still, they are interchangable with a harness mod.

Your '01 XC CDI should have a nice aggressive map that gives good low end and mid, keep it. Dual map has limited effect on a 250, the jetting has to be optimized for the "Sun" mode. The "Rain" mode delays the start of the advance approx 1000RPM so the bike has the subtle feeling of coming on the pipe later, buts its not a big change. If you need 100W for HID/LED, you need a 2K-3 with a rewind and a DC conversion.
