washers on lower rear shock?

I pulled my suspension off to have it re-valved and serviced by Les at LTR. My question is. On the lower part of the rear shock mount which way do the dished washers face. I was thinking it is with the cup side toward the barrings is this correct?

Lineman, you are correct.

Here is a pic that I made previously. It's rough, but gets the point across. I like Eff's idea too but it looks like a butt. Dirty mind I guess. :)

You're worried about that looking like a butt with that avatar? :)

i actually saw that "A Style" sticker for the first time in the train station in Torino, Italy, in 2007. Rather amusing.

So what is the secret to geting them back in easy. I can get one side but not the other.

LMAO! No doubt you are the master of posting technical drawings! I thought it looked like a butt too, but hoped it got the point across.:D

{Speaking in broken chinglish} Young grasshopper... there is much to learn. You must have patience to yield the cupped washers into final resting place. Use three hands to hold the cupped washers, while squeezing them together slightly, and gently slide the clevis into place. :)

When that zen moment fails, I try to hold the cupped washers in position and "wiggle" the clevis onto the washer's edge. If you're lucky, you can compress the washers as you slide the clevis into position. It's still a pain for me too.

It does just take a bit of patience but i did prevail

I got another shock with a clevis that is not broken and tried to put it on with new orings as washers. I cant seem to get them on. shock goes on with either the orings or washers only in place.

The orings should seat somewhat inside the rear pivot, and the washers should go right over with little compression to make them fit, you may have a set of orings inside the pivot already?

(|=|) I'm guessing if it doesn't fit you may have something like this. (||=||)

I purchased a bike where the guy put the washers on the top mount.... And direct bolted it to the pivot without washers. Makes quick work of that Clevis.

Just checked. i remove my o'rings.Only thing i see is the bearing. must the o'ring be flush with the rocker arm. Maybe the bearing is wider thand the stock pivot bearing. Might need to trim the o'ring down then.

Yeah the oring is essentially flush. I have been fooled by the black oring before. Maybe pull the bearing out to inspect. Oring should go over the bushing.

goes over bushing but seems sit past outer of bushing on both sides. it is a 15x3.5 oring. i suspect that the bearing is wider than it should be. will see if i can work it out. Works fine without the orings, then it is flush with the washers installed

The other trick I use is grease it heavily to make the washers stick to both sides of the pivot and oring. Then with one hand hold the washers in place as well and wedge the shock over the washers. They are tapered so they should try to hold in place when set correctly.

Cut the oring down the middle. Now it fits. I think previous owner put wrong width bearing in

Wahers and oring correct. still no joy getting the clevis over with a full o'ring. Cut the oring's in half and works. I wonder is it possible that the orings are a little to hard and not compressing properly.

While we're on this subject could someone please help me out with the bolt?

Is this just a normal M10 or does it step down more at the threads?

I think the previous owner may have put the wrong one in (it's stripped anyway), and the factory part is two weeks out from the dealer.

A picture would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
