water pump impellers

Guys what would the life expectancy be for a standard water-pump impeller be? How do you know when they need changing, does the bike simply over-heat?

If you've had your motor REALLY hot, it could melt.
It's easy to look at it/change. You don't even have to drain your coolant if you lay the bike
on it's left side.
If you need one, and don't want to spring for the aluminum one from LTR,
you can have my plastic one.

I'm not sure what model or engine size you have but not all stock GAS GAS impellers are plastic and will melt. If it is plastic and you do a fair amount of slow technical tough motor steaming riding or racing, get rid of it before you roach your motor. You need to open it up and check it out as Brian VT suggested.

My 2006 DE 300 came stock with a aluminum one that resembles the plastic version. While Les (LTRacing) Had my bike tore down last winter I had him still replace it as his impellers create far more flow than the stock design which in turn keeps the motor cooler in real slow terrain. However my 2004 EC 300 was equipped with the crazy plastic version.
