What bikes did you own before

I figure this should be interesting, considering the vastly different regions we are all from. Some of you are probably lucky enough to have a much larger list than me. Somewhere around 2009 I got into single track / xcountry and started trying to convert my CR250. Now I have the correct tool for the job!
Dad never bought me bikes, or helped fix them. I had to save for many months @ about 13 years old to buy my CR80 for $800. Previous to that I had only taken friends bikes for short rips but was instantly hooked.

1985 Honda CR80 (first bike, ratty and abused)
1984 Honda CR125 (mint condition find)
1990 Kawasaki KX250
*big time gap when I tried big city life*
1984 Honda CR500
2002 CRF450R (parts bike buy, I hate 4t)
2007 Honda CR250 (last of the Honda 2t's, keeping her around for now)
2014 GG XC300ER

Buying a Gasser was a big unknown leap for me. With no dealers anywhere near me, and never even having seen one in person before the day I picked mine up.... all I had to go on was online reviews and forums like this one for a general impression of the bike. Very happy with my decision so far.

Well I started out on 4 wheels at 13 yrs old then later switched to 2 wheels. I learned to ride and use a clutch on my buddy's 1986 Yamaha YZ80 and was instantly hooked as well! My dad can't change a light bulb so I was all on my own to learn how to wrench on stuff.

1987 Kawasaki KLF110 Mojave - we somehow talked dad into buying it brand new for us. We rode and beat the snot out of it. Dad never bought us anything again.
hiatus thru high school and college until I was able to afford my own stuff then I got:
1986 Suzuki Lt250R QuadRacer
1987 RM125
1996 YZ250
1999 YZ400F - bought brand new when I worked for the dealer. Loved that bike! Everyone scoffed at my 4T, now look at 'em.
Then life happened and then finally 14 yrs later...
1982 Honda CB650SC Nighthawk - found out I like riding on dirt WAY more than asphalt.
2009 GasGas EC300 Six Days

Yeah I didn't mention my 4 wheelers, or street bikes. Dad had Honda 300 4x4's when I was a kid, so I spent alot of time on those, and his snowmobiles.
I also owned an 87 Yamaha Warrior, and an 03 BRP DS650 at different times through the years.
Only ever owned 2 street bikes, an 80's Yamaha Maxxim 650, and a sweet Honda Intercepter 750.
I think the only reason dad let me ride his stuff when I was little was I could fix them, and he could not lol.

I started out fairly little on various bikes we had around my grandpas place. Pretty beat down stuff. I remember an old yz80 I used to ride that only had 3rd gear. I was finally able to talk my dad into a bike of my own at about 10 years old. He traded some stuff to my grandpa for a little Honda CT70. I rode the crap out of that little bike. Then I started selling and buying up to bigger bikes. Next was an 1980 something YZ80, then another 1980 something RM125. This bike scared me a little and I sold it for another YZ80. This was a 1982 and I loved this thing. I had several trips with friends to the Oregon dunes on this bike plus countless hours of trail riding. After that my family moved to Utah from Washington state. I kept the bike but didn't have anyone to ride with so I eventually sold it and then high school happened.

During college I started getting the bug to ride pretty bad and I talked my wife (girlfriend at the time) into a KFX700 to go to the dunes. This is auto so she could pick it up easily. She wound up liking it a lot and told me to get my own quad. I bought a beat down looking 87 Quadzilla with a fresh full built motor. I fancied it up, (because I'm fancy) and rode that for a couple years. This taught me a few things. 1. I'm pretty terrible at riding quads. 2. I really missed single track. 3. You can't ride a quadzilla on single track.

So I sold the Zilla and bought a...
06 KX450. Then sold and...
07 KX450. Then sold and...
06 RMZ450. Then sold and...
07 KX450.

Keep in mind I have never been to the MX track even once. Finally my dune trips dwindled to maybe once a year but the single track kept getting harder and harder. So, finally, my favorite bike I've ever owned...

2013 XC300E.

Plus over the years I've collected a garage full of other bikes that I mostly still have.

KX60
Three trail 90's
Honda Super 90 (sold)
79 Kawi KE250
Zook Alt50 trike
Yami tri-zinger
Chinese 50 (Honda clone for the kid)
73 CB175
04 HuskyTE450 (sumo street legal convert (sold))

Sorry so long winded, but that was kind of an enjoyable trip down memory lane.

I learned to ride on a 1974 Honda Z50 that belonged to a friend of mine when I was 8 years old. We rode the piss out of that little bike for the next 3 years. Raced motocross a lot in the late 80's. Rode mountain bikes in my 20's while I was in university, as that was all I could afford. Soon as I got a real job I bought a clapped out dual-sport to use as a commuter. Riding that pig reminded me how much I loved riding dirt bikes. Started racing enduros and cross-country in 2008. Cant imagine life without riding dirt bikes. Here's my not too lengthy list:

1983 Honda XR200

I've not had that many bikes over the years, so i'll take the memory test just to see how i'll do at it?

suzuki (screws-lewski as we called them) TS100 8 speed/4 high & kick the side lever forward or back and then have 4 low gears probably an early 70's bike was my first real bike that i bought with my own money.
8 or 9 years lay off- teenager with other rides on my mind.

then a nice and easy transition back into dirtbikes- a 1980-ish YZ 400 2 stroke mx 'r-
gobs of power, useless brakes and real poor suspension. Damn lucky i did not die on that bike!
then 3 YZ 490's back to back
1982 4 speed model
1986 4 speed with a frt disc brake ( best one out of the bunch)
1988 5 speed model with one of the first cartridge forks made.
I cross country raced all 3 of these arm yanking monster's in the tough single track of central british columbia. Can you say- young and dumb, and slow learner all in one breath?
Then on to yamaha's cross country bikes
!992 YZ 250 WR model small flywheel, tamed by a FWW but a nice wide ratio tranny
1994 YZ 250 WR- bigger Flywheel and way easier to ride than the 92
then came the gassers in my life
2001 Ec300, big ignition and flywheel, took a bit to get on to it, but so far i have not looked back
2006 Ec300 it took quite a while to talk myself into a second 300, as i was not sure if any other bike could hold a candle and live up to my first spanish lady! But the 06 did step up and not dissapoint me.
And then i waited and waited as my buddies hit the magic button on their katoomies in the tough and snarly sections and simply rode away from me as i was struggling to get the kicker out and still balance etc to get my bike lit up and ride off.
then in jan of 2011 I bought my EC300 e start, and this bike has been the best gasser i have had to date!! Sweet motor, and I've got the suspension revalved and set up beautifully for x country, so in closing, I'm still hoping to have another Gasser in the stable after this one, but who knows?
Thks to the original poster as that was a fun trip down memory lane!

Looking back, more trail orientated bikes like the honda xr used to be popular, and I remember the trail bike classes at club enduros being popular. There was a shift around late '90s / early '00s, when more casual riders started to ride competition bikes on the trails and the occasional club enduro, about the same time as the water cooled japanese four strokes and the new improved KTMs became available. Remembering how good they were, Kawasaki must be crazy not to produce a modern KDX200 along the lines of modern european enduros, it was a brilliant do-it-all bike.

This footage from the '94 British Enduro Championship was recently posted on Enduro News Travel back to a time when TMs were pink, gassers had TM engines and KTMs were white, as the riders "duked it out in dayglo" :D
