What to look out for EC250

Hello everyone. I'm currently looking at buying a 2000 EC 250. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what to look out for when I view the bike? Any usual points that wear/break etc. I've had a search but its not turned up much.
Thanks in advance
Ade

Aside from the usual used bike checks.

1) Check subframe for cracks. On down tubes.
2) check foot peg mounts for fractures-usually a hair line crack, shown by rust traces.

Pretty solid bike. Handles with surgical precision.

Thank you for the reply. I will have a look when I view the bike. If I buy it I will post a pic and probably many many questions!

Look at the back of the bike and see if the rear fender is straight with the rest of the bike. If not the sub frame is bent. I just replaced my bent aluminum sub frame off my 05 ec200 with a 94-98 KX sub frame. My rear fender was shifted by 2" and the rear tire was actually hitting the muffler. When I unbolted the seat the seat base was broke into several pieces.

Also check your forks to see if the fork guards are wearing through the upper fork tubes.

Again, Thank you. When did they change to upside down forks? The one I am looking at is a year 2000 bike and has regular style forks.

Show some pictures. Could be marzoochi or wp extreme's. I have the 50mm wp extreme's and they are some of the best forks I have ever ridden!

Ask when the swingarm bearings were last serviced. Have him show you that the swingarm pivot bolt will slide.
If the bolt is grooved (due to lack of maintenance) you're in for a nightmare project getting that bolt out to replace the bearings.
This applies to any used bike. Years ago I had to cut the swingarm off an XR500R.

Marzoochis being a good thing then?

And I will check the swingarm bolt.

Thanks again guys.

Honestly GG bikes come with great suspension. No matter what. I happen to be a fan of conventional forks. I have the WP extreme's on mine and they are like butter. The WP's are better but you'll be fine with what you have.

I just need to pass my bike license next so i can ride it places to get offroad. Either that or go and move to the states or something!

I'm in the lake district (northern England). Which is great but there isn't enough open land to ride on. You need to ride on road between sections of offroad.

Well I won the auction for the bike :-) So by this time next week I should have it home and ready to ride/start tinkering with.

Looks like i'm gonna be in the market for new kick start shaft assembly as the bike suffers with common slipping kick start fault. I'll give the stretching the spring thing a go to see if that helps, but if anyone can recommend a place to get a replacement then I would be interested.
