Why gasgas

Hey guys,

Starting off from when i was about fifteen years of age i starting riding mini motorbikes up and down the local streets around my block. Then when when i come of age i got a scooter on road (with a licence) to get me from a to b and start understanding what it means to ride a bike. Don't get me wrong i have hit the deck a few times haha but it's all a learning curve.

Me and the lads go out on days off get together at the local quarry and go crazy riding up and down the mounts getting the most out of "their bikes". A couple of them own KTM's and the others XR's but i want something different, the GasGas . I have been doing some research online on the different GasGas models but i am not sure what to get. The main GasGas for sale site has all the specs ete but still i am clueless to what they really mean apart from the standards like what cc, ABS etc.

Few offroad models below
GasGas: EC 250
GasGas: EC 300
GasGas: EC 450 F
etc
I assume most of you will know the Specs to most of the bikes so i won't go into all of that. They all pretty much seem the same. I need the bike for quarry's, fields and general on road here and there but not so much.

Any experience from the GasGas community would be great!!

Thanks guys

A 200 2 stroke would probably be the best overall bike for a beginner but if you will be using it on the road a fair bit then you will probably need a 4 stroke. So the 250 4 stroke would probably be your best bet.

A nice used GG EC 200 that you can get a plated (licensed, tagged or whatever your area calls it) would be a great choice.

I've got one that I just ride off road with minimal pavement riding. I love that bike.

Also have a plated Orange 450 EXC (4 stroke) that does a great job too, especially if there's more pavement or gravel roads involved.

But from how you describe your riding, I'd be looking for a clean used EC 200, or a EC 250, if you're ready to buy a new bike.

I know people are saying 200 for the beginner aspect, but for what you're describing I would go 300. I have had both a 300 and a 200 GG and for climbing up steep loose stuff, the torque and tractor-a-bility of the 300 wins. The 200 breaks loose easily and once the traction and momentum is gone, you're out of luck. Also, I've ridden my 200 on the streets and it is TERRIBLE just because of the low displacement. I'm not sure what speeds you would be riding at, but even trying to hit 60 mph on a 200 is pushing that bike somewhere it shouldn't go. The 300 could do 60 and up all day long.

Now I'm a huge fan of the 200. I sold my 300 and got the 200 and really haven't looked back. BUT, the things you are describing are some of the few things that I think the 200 just doesn't do a good job at. I don't know much about the GG 450, but I imagine like any other 450, it would probably be a little more pleasant on the road than a 2 stroke.

All my opinion, of course. :)

Get a 300. Low down torque to make woods riding on tickover a doddle, screams like a 250 up top if you need it to. Best of both worlds.

To be honest i am more of a 2 stroke fan the bottom end speed and control then there is the sound which is just amazing. The on road riding will be a lot less than the off road i am wanting the bike for off road. But that 300 sounds like a good idea!!

So the research starts

Guessing you're in the UK? If you want to go racing, a two stroke or a 250 four stroke would be the way forward. For trail riding, larger four strokes seem popular. If not mechanically inclined, a four stroke might be a better choice, changing oil is easier than two stroke jetting.

Newer is better your right but it is the price tag i will have to see the difference!!
But i am all about 2 stroke's that is something i can't change my mind on i have tried but failed haha

The decision is killing me, i wil check up some price tags and get back to everyone

Thanks guys

Get the 300 if you can swing it. The bike has excellent power and a very refined power delivery. By far the easiest bike I've ridden. I'm with you about the two strokes. IMO much easier and economical to do rings and piston every so often than messing around with valves etc. In fact right now I'm in the process of converting my 300 to street legal so I can ride it even more. Best of luck with whatever you choose.

What are you looking for? I have not had any issue getting parts. Rod on here is fantastic. I recommend you get in touch with him.

Thanks for the compliment and vote of confidence, but to clarify....parts related questions are to be directed to the dealers, not me. For some reason if an issue cannot be resolved between the dealer and his customer, the dealer needs to contact Mark. He and I both are aware of Mr. Kings past issue. Lets move on.
