little off topic, but im writing a paper concerning the environmental effects of trials tires, versus knobbie tires. looking for magazine articles that compare the two, and maybe weigh out the differences and benefits of each, just wondering if anybody read anything lately?
thanks

Magazines?:D:D

Why not research information from users here and on the other forums, along with the technical aspect of the two tire designs, and approach it from that direction.

looking for technical articles specifically, but im only allowed one website citation. figured magazines would be the next logical choice. i can explain it well enough, but i need 4 citations. looking for technical articles that have been done on this subject. my instructor has the worst ideas for topics. but this is the last one with her, so i want to do half way decent on it

She came up with this subject? Does she ride?

no, its a paper on sustainability. but i really only know about cows, dirtbikes, cars and guns, and the other three are harder to write about. figured tires would be easy to dumb down enough for her to understand.

I once saw a published study comparing horseback riders vs dirt bikes on trails about 20 years ago (dirt bikes were determined to be less destructive!) Never did see it again though, imagine that. It was written by the DNR or USFS, I don't remember.
I've never seen anything published knobbie vs trials tires and environmental impact though.
Really I can only imagine that it would be a dirt bike enthusiast that would want to do a study like that so I would be surprised if anyone would really publish it because either way the dirt bike would be the loser and it would supply ammunition to the greenies. Or am I being paranoid?
I would petition for a new subject ;)

picked a different topic under sustainability. and i was actually shooting for the point that regardless of which tires you use, neither will create long term damage if trails are properly maintained and managed. but i wanted a comparison on the two as part of it.

So which does more damage to trails, dirt bikes or cows?:D

I have my own trails and ride almost exclusively on trials tires. They have held up very well over 5 years, but I think that's more because I never ride on them when it's soft or muddy.

You could have done it on Quads vs. Dirt Bikes...but I guess that's a no brainer.:D

I ride on some cow trails they're more of what a mountain bike would create. Very tight and winding.

Lots of clubs that have private land will only allow 'Trials' tires on their trails.

That must speak for its self.

Once you're done your paper on 'environmental effects of trials tires, versus knobbie tires'...I hope you will share it with us.

i do like that quads vs bikes, but apon more thinking, the tires paper ends as kind of a wash, because neither really have a long lasting effect if trails are managed and maintained properly.
