Stators have a lifetime. As insulation breaks down they work when cold and start internally shorting. If you got keen you could measure the resistance then put it in a heat chamber and measure again.

To be fair, they are hopelessly rich standard so choose the ratio you want to run and then jet it close but safe. When we were roadracing, more oil meant less wear and more power throughbetter sealing. But I wouldn't bother going more than 40:1 on a dirtbike as you have low revs and not flat...

So good point. The needle tower seal can leak I've heard . perhaps some petrol proof sealant would be a good idea to diagnose. Say Loctite master gasket. Don't use rtv etc.

So is the cable hung up or something preventing the slide fully bottoming home? That would make it fairly hard to start.

They all fail eventually. Just did a mates for the second time in his 8 year ownership. That said when he pulled the tap out there was a bunch of crud so this time it might have been that. But they are cheap and running out of gas mid ride sucks. Almost as much as leaking in my van

Every part?The seal of the bolt on needle jet assembly? Apparently they can leak causing issues. I've never seen float height affect mixture on a 2 stroke carb. . Too high level bike drips has on sidestand. Too low, can run out of gas on street climbs.
