06 pipe on an 02

I don't think so. In 2003 GG tilted the angle of the motors in the frame on the 250 and 300, so your cylinder spigot won't line up. Unless they changed the angle again after 2004, I'm pretty confident on this applying to '06 pipes.

I think it will work with minor tweaking. I'm sure its been done.

Someone with both pre and post '03 bikes should try this and post the results.

Paul, buy the pipe if its in good shape and NOT tweaked. If it fits that bad or is not worth the hassle I'll buy it from you.

I'll be sending him a check soon. I hope to get this pipe on the bike and a Hyde guard for under $300.

I have an '02 XC300. Bought an FMF Fatty, part no. 025032. It
is supposed to fit the 03 and later bikes. I did get it to fit my 02'
Took a little pre-load persuasion, but, it fit. The forward lower mount
was a bit of a tweek, The upper rear mount since it rotates fit
better. The silencer also required some pre-load to get the holes
to align up.
It sure is nice and tight though.
I took the old FMF Gnarly from the '02 and installed in on my
'98 EC250. It fit much better with the only problem being the lower
mount. It would not even come close to fitting. The rear mount was
fine as was the fit to the silencer.
So, in my experience, it will work. Just not a sweet fit like it should.
It may promote an exhaust flange failure were it so smack the
pipe on a rock or log.
Good luck, Jeff SO. Cal.

Darn Glenn. You took the words right out of my mouth.:D
I was reading that and was thinking the same exact thing!

I fit the 06 pipe on my 02 last night. It fit ok. Not as well as the Doma fits on this bike but better than the FMF fit on my last bike. I had to loosen the silencer to get it to slip on. The lower mountwill likely work if I bend the tabs at an angle. The upper mount I have not used for 7 yearson any GasGas. The exhaust flange doesn't sit perfectly square, but niether did my FMF on my old bike. The only spot that concerns me is the pipe touches the radiator hose on the clutch side. I am wondering if I could bend the stub coming out of the radiator. I need to move the hose about a 1/4 in about an 1 1/2 below the radiator. Any one have any suggestions?

I am a couple little issues away from a new to me pipe that doesn't kiss the frame rails and a Hyde Combo to cover it up!

Paul,

I would not try to tweak the rad spigot, too easy to deform. The GG pipe on my '07 just about touches the hose, many are like this. Its a relatively cool part of the pipe though and no big deal but vibration wear could be an issue. Get a short section of heater hose in an auto parts store, slice it lengthwise, and glue it over the rad hose for insulation.

The exhaust spigot not being square might cause the o-rings to leak spooge prematurely. If it does clean everything up and try installing the o-rings/pipe with RTV instead of grease. This worked for me once.

Pipe / Radiator Hose touching

GoFasters has for sale a piece of thin walled tubing about 3" long that fits over the radiator hose so then the pipe touches the tubing and it protects the hose. No worries after installing it.

I have also observed that a RM250- 2T's right side radiator hose makes a big bent right there so it bends out of the way of the pipe. Haven't tried the RM hose though, to see if it fits.

I started to bend the spigot a little and thought better of it, Glen confirmed my worry. I ended up using three zipties to pull the hose to the frame rail. The hose is now about a 1/4 away from the pipe! I am waiting for my yearly bonus to show up and then I will buy the hyde combo and mount it all up. For now I have the newly nearly dent free Doma back on. I was succesfull in freezing out the bigger dents in the pipe. Results were good the price was perfect.
