Gas gas parts comparability

98mc250

Hey I’m looking to rebuild my what I think is 1998 gasgasmc250 I’m wondering what are the differences as allot of parts are only listed for ec’s are the engine cases identical?
- Will a 6 speed from an ec 250 of same year for and mc
- will an expansion pipe off same year ec fit seems obvious just want to confirm.
- Do linkage bearings from a 1999 ec or other years fit a 98 Mc 250 everything seems to be listed from 99 up.
- And if anyone cares this much to help here is the vin if someone could confirm it’s a 98

I believe, but, can not confirm. The 6 speed transmission from the EC250/300 will
fit into your MC250 - 4 speed.
I believe my 1998 EC250SM started life as an MC250. It has the 50mm Marzocchi
forks, and I believe the EC had the 45mm forks.
I did not convert the 4 speed to 6 speed. Steve Marolda from MotoWest did the
conversion. Steve no longer sells GasGas, but, he might be willing to answer your
question. 1-714-526-3234
Another resource here might be Jim Cook, He is a forum member. He used to
own Smackover Motorsports. He surely knows what it takes to convert the
4 speed to 6 speed.
One item the MC probably does not have is the counter balancer that the 1997-1999 has.
I believe all the chassis parts are the same. The cylinder and head are most likely unique
to the MC. Higher compression and possibly port timing? The ignition stator is also
probably not the same.
That is the extent of my knowledge on the subject.
Cheers, Jeff
