07 300 / 11 300 comparison...

Hi,
I have had my 07 for a while now and really enjoy it but I feel like getting a new bike( who doesn't?).
Just wondering how different the suspension etc is.
I have mine revalved and can get it reasonably good.
Reason for the update is that I will need to repair a pipe, fix a petrol tank yet again and be careful when doing the next rebuild as there are a few threads on the clutch cover that are a bit dicky.
Has anyone gone from an 07 to a 10 or later?
Also, is there a great difference between stock and race editions( in Australia?)
Just trying to justify the expense after getting mine exactly how I want it.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

No responses..

I have yet to ride any other gassers than my 2010 Euro which is Australias equivalent to Europes Race model. I have been very happy with the engine and suspension right out of the box (post jetting). I'll have a chance to throw a leg over a 2011 e-start for comparison once a friend gets a few more scratches on it :P

On paper the only difference is the brake disks, bars, revalved forks (firmer), and an Ohlins rear shock. To say whats better or worse is anyones guess, particularly if you spend the coin to get it revalved to suit yourself.

Thanks Jakobi,
I would have thought there would have been a few on here that have had both the above bikes...
I have been reading about yours and it sounds like you are nearly where you want to be with jetting etc.
Cheers Mark

Very true that I thought you would have had some more replies from people with both. From everything I have read it appears the later models are pretty much all of the same. Revisions mostly to the fit and finish of the product.

You have to have to admit the 2011 line up looks the goods, and everyone loves a new bike. Is it worth throwing down the extra coin?? Your call.

Hopefully someone else will chip in with some more info.

Exactly my question too..... I don't know.
As I said mine is pretty good right now with freshly rebuilt motor including crank.
I finally have the suspension good with the mousse tubes in front and back .
I am thinking more and more about just getting a largere tank and keeping her for a while.
Cheers Mark

It's tough to push a bike that's all set up out to pasture, but the difference in build quality from the 07s to 10s and 11s is remarkable.

I've ridden both an 06 and a 10 300, but not back to back and obviously not both set up for me. The main difference appeared to be the precision of the machine - you could definitely tell they were related, but the new bike was just sharper overall.

That being said, the best money I ever spent on a motorcycle was the $350 for my first riding school. I've attended many since, and they've made a whole lot more difference in my speed and control than did a new pipe or even suspension re-valve ... plus, until your mind starts to fog over you get the benefit on every bike you ride.

Thanks Two wheels, this is the sort of info I was after.
I am actually doing the Shane watts dirtwise school this weekend ,so I will be able to relate to your comments about that too.
Cheers Mark

Mark: Dirtwise was the most recent school I took - good times. Take notes though, so you'll be able to refresh, or pick up the DVDs.

Mark, I have an 07 also. Did you do anything to your seat? (they are rock hard on the 07 models!) I have been thinking about a taller foam, but I'm only 5'7 and the last thing I want to do is make it even harder for my spindly little legs to touch the ground.

Bchatt,
I too have the standard seat.
I am 5'10" and have done the following which is good for me but anyone who rides the bike complains about the seat being hard.I guess I don't really sit down that much so I don't notice it.

I pulled the seat cover off, got out a grinder and smoothed (rounded ), the sharp edges, Used 10mm of soft foam from a too soft seat that came with the bike and placed it over the existing seat.

I replaced the seat cover and all is good .... for me anyway.

Good info blokes.

Wence, if you weren't at the other end of the planet (Aus) ha! I'd offer you a ride on mine to see the difference. Do you know any of the other guys down south that have lashed out and bought some of the Euro models?

Jakobi,Your'e in Qld aren't you?
I may get a chance to ride one at the Shane watts thing. Not sure if anyone that owns one is going though.
Cheers Mark

Yeah thats it. I'm right up in Far North Queensland. Hope you enjoy the riding school and good luck jaggin a ride on a later model 300.

Wence, i upgraded from an 07 300, to the Euro.
Motorwise i dont think theres much differance but, the brakes and suspension are 10 times better. It really is a huge step up. Fit and finish is also so much better than on my old bike.
I liked the 07 but it was starting to cost me more to run than what a new bike would, at least for the moment.
Everything was just wearing out and because i was racing it had to be fixed straight away.
I have enjoyed just doing my normal maintinence after each ride instead of rebuilding linkages etc.

Your call but i have not regretted it one bit. + as you said new bikes are cool.

Thanks NSE.ONE,
And here I was getting set to keep it???
Now you have thrown a spanner in the works.
Thanks for the info though , it all helps.
Cheers Mark

Ahh Mark! Just go and buy a 2011 EC300.. You know you want too! Christmas has just passed but I'm sure you can find some kind of significant date to assist the cause. Its my birthday soon :P ha!

Shame we aren't getting any EC300 Six Days in Aus.. That would be the shiznit

My mate got the one that was meant to be at the Bike expo, but didnt arrive in time.
He's a lucky SOB having the only 6 Days 300 in Aus so far.
And from what ive heard we might be getting a few later in the year.

Lucky fella!

I'd almost consider downgrading from the 300 to a 200 to snag a Six Days. The price of the 200 is pretty appealing too :)

Hopfully we get a few more 300's in for the rest of the punters. I'd say I'll be holding onto my Euro for at least a few years now.
