Hi all just joined the forum as I have not long bought a 2004 ec250 after riding for a while I have noticed there seems to be a hesitation before I hit the powerband in 1st and 2nd sound more like a bog, also it keeps blowing plugs i put in an iridium plug and rode it for maybe an hour took it home went to start it the next day it ran for maybe 2 mins then blew the plug, I have taken the carb off to check the jets and I have a 168 main and a 40 pilot jet needle is second clip from top checked the reeds they don't look to bad any advice as to what could be the issue. I am based in the UK if that helps East Midlands

Heya.

First off 20 years wear on that carb. Pull it out and check the needlejet with a magnifying glass and a strong light. Any ovality where the needle goes will allow wet gobs of fuel up the side.

Also the N1FE needle the come with standard is rubbish. There's plenty of jetting threads right here but with the wrong needle it won't matter changing the others.

My 07 would last a year or two before the plug would make a difference but still never foul.

Last option is the stator doesn't last forever, they are a ktm part, so accessories are easy. Electrix in uk is where i got mine. Also check plug cap.

Hi thanks for the reply I took the carb off last
night to inspect the needle it looks fine to me.

also noticed the needle is an nceg or could be 6 at the end kind of hard to see, when I looked online and typed that needle in it showed the results for an rm250, I bought a couple of jets yesterday went with a 182 main(they had no 185s in stock) and 35 pilot tried to get it as close to stock as I could.

Took her out for a little ride last night and must say she felt a lot better there's still a slight bog before the band in 1st but no where near as much as before so going to tweak around with needle height tonight.

One thing to note when I took her for a 2nd ride last night she was a beast barely any bog before the band, felt completely different but in a good way so much more responsive than previous rides, it wasn't until I pulled up when I noticed the panel that hides the airbox had come loose and was hanging down exposing the air filter, that was the last time j rode her as it was getting quite late and didn't want to upset the neighbours.

So you went 2 steps leaner on the pilot and 5 steps richer on the main? 35 is scary.

I read a thread on here that someone put stock jetting was 185 main 35 pilot so I tried to get as close to that as I could at the time( without waiting for parts) I am going to keep tinkering around with it I've still got the 40 pilot to try with the 182 main to see how that performs.

To be honest this is all new to me checking jets, carbs and all the other mechanical things, I only know what I'm learning via on here or on YouTube

My 300 settings will be a bit offmso i wont mention, but you need to get a good pilot for that needle. Turn the idle mixture in to richen, if it gets near the end go up in pilot size. 2 strokes hate too small a pilot and are easy to seize with one. Very reliable if you are right or rich. But it will stutter with too big.

Think of jetting about throttle position on these carbs. Not revs. Write that somewhere. Refer often.

Thanks again for the reply I changed the pilot back to the 40 that was in before but kept the 182 main she seems to be running a lot better now, I'm out on her on some trails today so will update when I'm back again thank you for the help
