comparisons and differences between the two models. anyone ridden both to give any feedback please. my mate is looking at a 05 model going cheap what are members thoughts

Two completely different motorcycles. I had 05 and now 07 and even they are different by a bunch. Starting 06 have shorter stroke engine, starting 07 different frame, starting 08 different fuel injection and a number of other things. 05 is heavier but has a more planted feel.

thanks nick i realise being 5yrs apart they would be different but in saying that is the difference marginal or massive between 05 and 010, power wise are they day and night difference or like you wouldnt notice eg; 05 has 40hp and 010 has 50hp not saying thats what they have but as an example

The newer shorter stroke motor has better bottom end torque and what i believe is more linear power curve. I dont hthink there is a big power difference just how its delivered. At first i thought i liked the 05 better but after just abit of time you realize the newer bike is better. If it was me i'd pay 9k for a new one before i'd pay 2k for an 05 and thats what i think the 05 is now worth.

Did he buy it?

I've got an '05 fse 450, Marzocchi forks, Scott steering stabilizer, custom fuel injection mapping. I'm 45 yrs old, been riding one year after taking 35 yrs off. I ride with all kinds of KTM's, and a couple Husabergs in tight, rocky, rooted, single track, quad track, and jeep trails. I keep up with most everyone, faster than some. On the occassion that i do get smoked, I'm pretty sure it's me that is the limiting factor, not the bike.

An above post states that the low end torque has been increased since the '05, but I feel like my bike is very forgiving on rooted boulder garden hillclimbs because of it's great low end grunt; it makes up for me getting off line.

I really like it.
