2006 EC300 Jetting

Hi Guys

My first "Question" Post.

I have a new to me 2006 EC 300 and need a little guidance on jetting.

I have a new top end in it and has been run in, along with a good PV refurbish.

The bike has loads of low down torque, but when I open her up in say 3rd just before it hits powerband it bogs or splutters a little and then clears and takes off like a scalded cat, if I change into the next gear as it happens it doesn't repeat the sputter.
I am also fouling plugs after 2 or 3 rides, black and wet. So I assume this is too rich somewhere.

Current setup is as follows:
Carb AS1
PJ 40
MJ 175
Needle N3EH 3rd clip

I bought a 38PJ but haven't tried it yet and I have raised the clip to the 2nd clip but haven't had a chance to ride it yet as I have the bike in pieces at the moment doing a refurbish and good clean up.

Am I going in the right direction at the moment or what are the suggestions?

Thanks
Shannon

2005 jetting

When I had a 2005 300 I ran a 168 m 42 p and a ltr needle which is a ddk in the 2nd clip from top but we ride from 5000' to 10'000' worked good everywere

Keep the pilot, drop the needle. Don't adjust the pilot to alter what's going on when you open the throttle :)

You should be able to tune your pilot with the air screw.

And get an iridium plug (BR8EIX), mine did the same fouling plugs, even when they came out looking great, but the Iridium plug has been in over a year now!

Thank you Guys.

Didn't realise the spark plugs made such a difference, will have to try and find one of those Iridium plugs and give them a whirl as well.

I'll leave the 40PJ in for now and just see what happens with dropping the needle to 2nd slot and then try the 1st slot as well. It's not running terribly just not as good as it can. Will try get it all back together over the weekend and give it a try.

Thanks

Might not be a jetting issue at all. What type of oil are you running? Also does the exhaust have a funny smell?
The reason I ask these questions is this, if you are running an oil with a high flash point, such as Motul 800, and you aren't revving the bike hard the oil will cause the bike to load up with unburnt oil and cause the sputter and fouled plugs. A leaking crank seal will cause the same problems described along with a funny smelling exhaust. Burning gear oil smells way different than regular 2t oil.

If dropping the needle one clip doesn't help the problem you may want to start looking elsewhere for your problem.

Agree with both of these points. I switched to Motul 710 and haven't looked back.

I'm running Motul 710 and haven't noticed any funny smell from the exhaust, just normal 2 stroke smell.

Thanks for the tips :)

Hey Guys

Quick update, finally got my bike refurbish finished and took her out for a quick scoot yesterday.
Glad to say my jetting ideas worked perfectly :D
Apart from the splutter I had, it would also idle fine when cold but as soon as it warmed up properly it would cut out all the time.

It now idles perfectly and has zero splutter, seems ever so slightly weaker on bottom end but not by much, but it now brings the wheel up in third as it hits the powerband all by itself (no rider input) :D So to say I am well pleased is an understatement.

Final settings as follows:
Carb AS1
PJ 38
MJ 175
Needle N3EH 2nd clip
Air/Fuel Screw 1 1/2 turns out
Fuel Mix 50:1 - 95 Octane/Motul 710 oil

Thanks for the help guys
