2010 ec vs. 2011 race

I'm wondering what the differences are besides the forks (45's vs. 48's), and if the 2010 could be made to handle like the 2011.

My 2010 Race/Euro is the same bike as the 2011 Kick only. Sachs 48mm forks, Ohlins 888 shock), B shaped frame (black instead of red), exact same running gear. 2011's have a different front fender and headlight. Neither of which would have a great deal of effect on handling.

Not much different from the 10's to the 11's. 11's went to a 45mm Marzocci fork and ohlins rear shock. The 2010's are great bikes, I would venture to say better than the 2011's.

So the 2010 has the same shock as the Race 2011, but it has the Sachs forks instead of the 48 Marz. So it really boils down to whether or not the Sachs can be made to work as good as the Marzocci 48's. Is the valvling different in the Shocks?

Well well.. It depends on the actual bike..

Not sure what the base model 2010's came with. I believe it was Sachs/Sachs front and rear with the red anodized fork tubes.

Mine was a limited edition run for Australia which is essentially a EC300 Race with road legal bits attached. It came with Sachs 48mm (firmer valving) and the Ohlins 888.

The early 2011 models came with Sachs/Sachs again front and rear. Different valving from the stock 2010 models (I believe).

Then there were the Six Day models which ran the Ohlins 888 and 45mm Zokes.

Then later in 2011 the Americans (not sure about us skips) got the 250/300 Race models which I believe came with Ohlins 888 rear and Marzocci 48mm CC forks.

From what I read the 48mm CC Zokes are the first choice. Sachs after that, then the 45mm zokes. All can be made to work well.

The Sachs 48mm forks will take the ohlins ttx inserts if you cant get the sachs to work for you.

Hi,I have a 2010 ec300 with stock 48mm sachs red forks, air bleeders are a must.Generally real happy with them but the mid can be harsh & I can bottom them out if pushing along (and messing up).As I don't anticipate a 20kg weight loss I am about to do a bit of an experiment with help from STS.I have .48kg springs on the way & will start with that, then maybe oil height if needed before ripping into valve work if it really needs it.Remembering I am not going to target a GNCC or cross country win,try a SX triple or start a FMX career. But be competitive at clubman level & lots of social trail riding (HEY,ITS ALWAYS A RACE).Just looking to be able take on some rutty, root infest trail & then be able to hammer through some open stuff without crapping myself. And scare some 450's.Will up date in a couple of weeks.
