2010 GasGas FSR 250

GasGasman...I was only kididng.......about leaving work and head'in east bound! Thanks for the directions....those of you that ARE GOING, while the rest of us wish we could go!! HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!! Can't wait to hear about the bikes!!!

P.S Will someone take some nice shots...I need a new background for my computer!

The empty hole leads to the spark plug tube. Lets air in/out to equalise the pressure in what would otherwise be a blind hole. It also allows any bike washing water sprayed in there out.
The oil to the head is fed up that tube the back of the engine and the bolt in front is there to "check" for oil flow after changing if its the same as the 03 450 I had.
See it has DOT Michelins on it.....does that mean it has a chance of being road legal somewhere in this country?

Its beautiful, and I think it will be an awesome bike to those who understand less is more in a lot of cases. My only gripe about the Yamaha 250F is its a bit tall, and of course this will feel perfect to us.

The pedal arm just has a non-folding tip thats adjustable in position. I suspect the pivot is the same, but would be a good upgrade.

The '07+ WR has the same oil tank setup as the YZ, (no oil in aluminum frame).

Steve, did it come with the 300 kit? What kit is it, the Athena?

The 300 kit did not come with this bike but will be installed as soon as it gets here. Not sure whose kit it will be but should we know by the dealer show.

Hot damn! Awesome!

What's the price? I may have to get it but with a 300 kit. You have financing? Where do I sign? Shhh don't tell the wife. :D

Yes that thing looks sweet. Kudos to the designers at GG.

I'd be very interested in test riding one. Gonna have one at either of the remaining trail rides by chance?? There are two left ya know... :D hint - hint...

What did you come up with for wet weight?

Found these on the MotoMerlin.co.uk web site:

I'll bet its close to the Yamaha WR. I'll also bet that it FEELS lighter, because the WR is tall. I like the WR, its a very neutral planted feeling bike, no bad habits. The GG frame should do a good job of hiding the weight.

If there are no external oil lines, does this mean that the GG runs with just the oil in the normally dry sump, or did they change the engine design to include a wet sump? if they've eliminated the oil tank and not modified the engine, that means a small oil capacity, which could have a detrimental effect on engine life.

Not sayin', just checking.

if I remember correctly, The new WR's are a wet sump set up unlike the older models that were dry sump. The older ones had a oil tank in the frame and then a externally mounted tank in front of the engine. In the picture that shows the ignition cover, do you see the little black cap? its the oil dipstick/fill hole. Again if I remember correctly it only holds about 800cc of oil, and lubricates the engine and transmission.

800 cc is what the present sump in the current design WR/YZ 250F yamaha holds. (Toykomods sells "wet sump kits" which block the scavenger pump and external oil lines). They didn't change the design.

For a reference, my kid's TTR125 holds 1 L of oil. your GG holds 900cc of oil, and that is just for the transmission. My kids' XR70 held 800 cc of oil.

If this were my bike, I'd run a synthetic oil and change it after EVERY ride. You're lubricating a transmission, clutch and engine of a very high performance engine on on .8L of oil. W/O high maintenance levels, you're looking at a disaster.

If these things start grenading, GG will suffer. I hope each bike is sold with a case of a good synthetic motor oil.

Oh, and a hand grenade joke:

What do you get when you throw a hand grenade in a French kitchen?

Linoleum Blown-Apart!

Before I bought my GG, I use to ride a yamaha 4 stroke and was a member of Thumpertalk. The small oil capacity of the WR/YZ was one of the biggest drawbacks to the bikes. I don't understand why Yamaha went with "wet sump" set-up for the off-road bikes. I guess it's ok for motocross, but for off-road, it's plain ridiculous. With such short oil change interval's, I would have to do an oil change half way thorough a day of riding. That Yamaha engine has been around since 2002, so I don't thing grenading engines will be a problem for GG.

Ok, I'll open a can of worms......
I wonder if the YZ cam timing can be done to the Gas Gas?

The WR 250 engine is a modern day version of the XR400 motor. Very bullet proof. I had a 2005 WR250 dual sport and only had jetting issues with it.

Speaking of dual sport-the Gas Gas 250F will make a nice conversion.

The WR motor is solid and reliable. But, they are also designed as a dry sump engine, with higher oil capacity (about 2 quarts). The oil tank also acts as a convective source of heat transfer (i.e., oil cooler).

Such a small oil capacity bothers me a bit, but since i won't be buying one, I'll get over it.

I hope that the bike is wildly successful.

Didn't Yamaha just update the 250f motor last year or 2007? or do you think this motor is an older model?
