My 200 like a lot of others really had no fun factor in the low RPM's it took for ever to get power and was nothing like riding my 2001.I played with the jetting, head, you name it. I decided to bite the bullet and switch ignitions from the 2K3 to a 2K2. What a big difference, now when you twist the throttle the bike goes. I added an 8oz flyweight for a little more bottom end. If your bike feels lame, I'd suggest switching to the 2K2.

Hmm. Good info. Sounds like the difference is very noticeable!

Do you notice losing any ability to lug? Any increase in stalling? Reason I ask is I rode some pretty strep technical hills and began to reconsider the 2K2 as the heavy 2K3 saved me numerous times from stalling and was able to lug up some pretty good stuff.

As you know, I was initially thinking it was the pipe that was the big factor on mine being sluggish off idle, but it sounds like the 2K3 is the culprit. Just not sure I want to make the switch. I suppose I could just swap with my sons to test it out.

I think you made the right choice with the 2k2. when the bike is jetted well the 200 rips! Still lugs well for small bore.

When I rode my 2001 with the same set up (It was an XC) with the 8 oz fly wheel weight it lugged down low. I won't have a chance to try this out in real hilly stuff until next week in Hancock NY.

+1 Hamilton hit the nail on the head.the cannon silencer makes a big difference as well.

Just want to make sure I have this correct before attempting.

My sons 2k2 from his '99 ec200 should work fine on my '03 ec200 and vice versa, right?

*remove cover
*remove flywheel (hopefully a yamaha flywheel puller will work)
*remove stator

Is the flywheel and stator 1 piece or separate like most bikes?

Do I need to mark anything for timing?

When I swap, I am swapping flywheel and stator, correct?

Anything else?

Thanks

2 peice unit, yamaha flywheel puller should work, it'll bolt right in. I lined mine up with the bolt impressions on the stator and it worked fine.

Alright. Got mine switched over today. Going to try it out on Tuesday. Thanks for the help on disassembly. Pretty straight forward really.

Should be interesting to test results. Also through on a 12T sprocket to test.

Rode the Hancock 2 day this past weekend, the bike climbed everything they had to offer. As anyone who's ridden there can tell you they have endless rocky up hills. I think I've finally found the set up I've been looking for. The bike accelerates without hesitation and has that fun factor I've been looking for

Glad to hear the the 200 is running good. Wish I could have made it to hancock this year, maybe next year.
