2012 EC 250 power valve

Hey guys I did my first enduro today on my new 2012 Ec 250 and it was very wet and slippy. I felt the power band was kicking in too soon and the back wheel was spinning up everywhere in every gear.

It's was very very hard to stop it spinning and stay in a straight line. My last bike was a husaberg 250 2t and I could swap out the PV spring and make it kick it a lot later.

Can this be done on my bike? What is my options to calm it down a bit?

Many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul, Welcome to the forum. There is an adjustable power valve cover, several companies make them. They are very expensive.
You may want to consider a Flywheel weight, Getting the squish band corrected
and proper jetting.

Thanks for the reply john,

I'm very new to the 2 stroke thing so not too clued up on jetting? What's involved? I've rebuild many 4 stroke Hondas but I'm way out of the picture when it comes to 2t's. What's the deal with squish? Is that base gasket size?

Thanks in advance.

Bit more involved with the gasser when changing the PV, but it can be done. You need to remove the RHS engine cover and either change the spring, or whats likely easier and would achieve your desired results would be to add some shims (preload the spring) so it takes a bit more before it begins to open.

Thanks for all the help guys,

Yeah it has a map switch and it's still quite wild in the wet with it on the tame setting.

I'm only 10 stone kitted up so there isn't a massive amount of weight over the rear wheel. Moving the power band up in the rev range on my husaberg made a big difference. Might go all out and get the TRUSTY cover.
