2012 GasGas 250 4T

I was surprised at the lack of engine braking, which messes me up being a 35 year 2T guy. I am 230 + gear and the suspension was soft but didn't bottom in some nasty stuff that I took it though. I think that I could live with it out of the box, maybe lower it 1" for my stubby butt. Power was very smooth and it felt very, very nimble.

the yamaha 4stk motors have very little engine brake.. atleast the 5v motors. the wr450 i had did not have near as much as a crf450x..

i would think the 250 gg with a big bore kit, maybe a rekluse, would be a neat goat trail bike.cooling should be fine with the gg rads.steering and suspension shoudl be awesome. not to replace my 2st, but as an addition..

at 5'6... i lower everything ranger..even ggmans 250..

I used to race a WR250F in the open intermediate class back in 02/03 and absolutely loved the bike. I'm 6'4" and 210lbs too, and the motor was stock aside from the pipe. I used to get holeshot after holeshot against 450's and two stroke of all sizes. Never ever felt the lack of power was a problem aside from the odd gigantic loose material hill. Wore out front tires faster than the back, and never crashed. Bike just didn't have that extra little bit of power that gets a rider in trouble. Sold the bike to my cousin after two years and he rode it for another 4 before selling it. Never had to touch the engine. I won the internediate title that year on that bike, winning 9 of the 12 races I attended.

Even before I bought my 11 300GG, I was thinking about going back to a 250F. IMO they are the safest and probably one of the funnest bikes to ride out there.

Some better pics.....

The only thing that would worry me, is the gearing on the yz250f is pretty low, it runs out topend on the transfer roads. I think that for the forest it would be super, for where we ride a lot with long bits of road between trail, in a race you would be left sucking dust. too bad that don't put a 6 speed tranny in these! but I am still thinking about it :)

those are WR motors, right , not yzf's.... wonder if it is wr specd tranny's or yzf tranny's ?

I had the same experience on my 250X. Lots of holeshots, perfect blend of power and traction.

Being on the down-sizing line of thought lately, I dream about being able to afford one of those and stick supermoto tires on it.
