250 and 300 HP stock?

With good clean proper jetting, what kind of HP do we think the 250 and 300 is putting out? I know it doesn't matter, but I am curious.

I did a search, but surprisingly nothing came up.

???hp

I'm pretty sure theres something around putting them both up there pretty high Now this is my memory which has to be taken with a container of salt ....
but I think the 250 was listed at 48 and 300 at 49
Its out there somewhere.....
I think Corey (smartcarb) could tell us what the numbers are for real

Ive found various quoted figures; all right around 45-50hp for both the 250 and 300 engines.

And both are supposed to be very similiar hp wise, its just the 300 eclipses the 250 with its extra torque......

I ran our 2004 DE300 on a Dynojet Dyno up at Finish Line Engines in Beaver Dam, WI. The engine had about 8 hrs on it following a completely rebuild, (replated cylinder, new piston, rod, bearings, etc). I did some minor case and port clean up, it has Vforce reeds and one 0.014" base gasket. The bike is jetted correct and it runs very well. It made 40.2 HP to the rear wheel.

dyno

theres a youtube video of a ktm 300 that makes 45 with the apt
If Corey gets back on here again he could give us real #s on current bikes I would think with all the gasser testing they did I bet they must have run 200s 250s 300s
I wonder what the drivetrain eats up ? 10 % -20%
40 at the wheel would be what at the crank ???
Zman was your head done too?

I'd be curious to see dyno sheets between 250 - 300 I'm more concerned with torque as I'm a slightly larger guy riding a supposedly porky bike
I ride a 300 and a 250 and my ass dyno says the 250s hp is equal and easier to make but the 300s torque gets me up hills with less work
But all my 250 bikes have had different characteristics screamers -chuggers

I would think drivetrain losses on a bike are less than 10/%. More than that and you've got' issues'.

Losses would be more than 10% on a manual car for sure, and id hate to think what the losses on an automatic transmission 4x4 etc might be......

We did not cut the head on the 300, but with the single 0.014" base gasket the compression seems pretty high based upon the way it runs and its kicking compression compared to the other 5 GasGas bikes in our group. Ryan at Finish Line Engines said he heard some minor pinging at one point in the RPM range so we are probably at the limit for 93 octane pump gas.

Attached is the dyno graph including the graph for my big bore GG XC 327. The dyno graph confirmed what the butt dyno told me. The 300 made more peak power than my 327. The 300 revs higher than my 327 and made 3hp more but the 327 has more power on the bottom end.

Before I did the 327 big bore kit we milled the base of the cylinder 1mm to get more low end. I wanted even more a few months later so I did the big bore kit with a 76mm piston. The 327 kit made a noticeable increase in bottom end and midrange power but it is not a top end screamer.

I think the initial cylinder base milling killed the top end along the way. I recently found that the piston at BDC is about 2.5 to 3 mm above the bottom of the exhaust port. If I get some time this winter I will raise cylinder and then cut the head to bump the compression back up. The 327 makes more torque and HP up to 6500 rpm which is where I ride most of the time. On the other hand, when you want to rip, you want to RIPPPPP!!!!!!

Strictly for comparison is my totally stock 300rr with the exception of James Dean kit and Q Stealth, on his dyno:

Bike had less then 3 hours on it, not even broken in. James rides a '13 300xc with sx head, and lots of other personalized goodies, which made the exact same power as my almost stock and quiet Beta. He was grumbling...

I guess I should have specified Gas Gas 250 and 300......sorry dude, don't really care about the Beta.

Oh well may as well add my old 200 dyno. Did have the squish done & comm raised a bit. Running with one base gasket lowering barrel slightly.

Bit of a pain to fit a roadtyre just to do a run but I had a mate who had a type machine & a wrecking business back then to provide an old tyre. Tried ign timing adjustment but std was best in this case. LTR jetkit had jetting close.

ignore the fact I started the test from 6000, if I'd started lower that part would have filled in, but I was lazy and looking at if I'd raise the com too high which is why I was looking at mid to top end revs.

Had this from an old Digital Magazine. It is from a 2008 model. After riding my 300 for a few years I can feel the flat torque curve starting at quite low RPM.

Would be nice to see horsepower before and after head mods. My bike feels like a completely different animal since I got my squish correct!
