For anybody thats interested I just compared the weight of a stock gasgas 250 Wiseco pro lite and a Athena piston, w.o. pin ,bearing or rings. The wiseco came in at 210 grams and the athena at 238 grams, The athena despite being a honda piston port model with a relief in the intake skirt, less material, so the actual weight diff is prob closer to 56 grams or 2 onz. Thats better than a 25% diff.

Uhhhh....as far as I know, GasGas does not use Wiseco pistons from the factory. Vertex pistons have come in all my bikes, and are what I get when I order from GasGas.

If you run a Wiseco piston, make sure you warm it up well. Personally, I'm not a fan of their pistons.

Wiseco was o.e. for many years then Wossner and now Vertex, dont know about the o.e. gasgas Vertex but i think its a cast piston as opposed to the other two. Athena is basicly a Wossner with a moly coating. Steve did you make it to Mcnutt yet? I'm startin to feel like Jack Nicholsons character in the shining. gonna go down ther as soon as they loose the snow either that or lose my mind.I'll let you know when.

I went down to McNutt on the weekend. Well, I was riding the endurocross demo at the Vancouver Motorcycle Show and helping out GasGas Pacific, but I also fit in a McNutt ride. Lots of blow down and snow so we couldn't get up into the good stuff, but I still had fun on some of the lower trails (Pristine hill climb was fun). I'd wait a few weeks before heading for the coast.
