300 EC RPM limit?

I have revved my '06 EC300 to just over 10000 RPM a number of times with no damage. With a 2 stroke you will find the power falls off when you rev it very high.

Take a look on p 59 in the Aug 2008 MotocrossDigital.com at the dyno charts for the '09 300 and 250 where you can see the max dyno reading at 9800 RPM. It is also interesting to note the 300 consistently produces more power than the 250 at any RPM above 8600 RPM.

The 300 has awesome power delivery.
 
Mine is 9600, I thought it was a little short. Is the limit in the CDI or is that the safe spot for the internals?

I took out the reeds spacer and switched to 70:1 (opti-2), tuned the air screw, quite a bit out. I have a JD jet kit. My bike has opened up but I still find when I hit the meat of the pipe or ladder rpms it falls short of the power it should make, also feels the top end pull is lacking and not running properly.
 
I have bounced my Gassers off the rev limiter many times, but only because shifting would be sketchy at best.

My 2000 EC/XC 300 has never been a rever. My 2005 EC300 was a screamer by comparison and more so on the dry ignition setting. With the higher compression on the cut head, the bike lost some revs, but gain so much power elsewhere that it doesn't matter.
 
Well you know the feeling when u hit the limiter? Well when I hit my top end it feels like that just not as bad, like its too rich. Supposedly my jetting is on as it was done by the dealer, but could my float be set wrong by the factory? Or the timing even? Or factory power valve issues? Or is that normal for the 300's?

I'm sensative to these things because my old YZ and WR were spot on with throttle response and jetting and I fell my gasser is not quite in the same place.
 
First off, I would run more oil. With more oil the rings seal better and tend to last longer. I run about 40:1.

Second, check the float level and tune the jetting. I am not familiar with what JD jetting provides for GasGas. At full throttle, you are primarily on the main jet. It sounds like you may be too rich. You may want to try stepping down the main jet size.
 
I would look into two things, one is jetting, a rich main will act like a rev limiter but sputter more when rich. The other is what pipe you have. Because you can control your RPM's with a pipe I haven't seen a 2 stroke CDI box to actually have a rev limiter. (Could be wrong though)

Different pipes rev differently, this is due to the leading taper. When you hit the pipe limit though it is like you just turned off the bike or started pushing the kill switch while in gear, far more significant change in my experience than being rich on the main. I recently had a Honda that the stock pipe on it limited me to about 7500-8000 RPM's, I changed the pipe to a FMF desert pipe and then I could rev to 9000 RPM's. (500cc's didn't like going much above that without some work.)

I have the factory 07 gasser pipe, stamped with gas gas. Main could be rich I guess, I never set it.
