'99 ec200 brake pad and caliper problems?

I bought a 99 ec200 for cheap in great shape. love it. Marzocchi conventional forks

1. The front brake started to drag, wouldn't release well. The pistons were sticking so I thought that I would put new seals and wipers into the caliper. Well the seals and wipers appear to be too small in diameter. I thought that maybe it will all stretch when you put it together. I lubed everything up well and tried to push the piston into the caliper with the new seals. When doing this I took a chunk/bite out of the dust wiper. Sheared it off between the caliper and piston. Back in the house to order new parts. Is it supposed to be this way?

2. When back out to replace rear brake pads. The new pads don't fit. The package says '97-'99 ec200 but they are not the same. The new pads aren't long enough and the tab that locks into the rear caliper is not large enough as well.

So, now I think that I may have different brakes on this bike. There seems to be different parts from 2000 up. Is it possible that there was a mid year change and I have the 2000 parts on my bike? Does anyone know the piston diameter in the caliper of the various years so I can compare?

I do have brembo front and rear. But are they all the same and use the same brake pads, seals and dust wipers?

The front replacement seals and wipers didn't fit well, if at all, and the rear brake pads that are supposed to fit my bike don't fit.

I need to know if there was a mid year change on the '99 to the 2000 brake parts. I also need to know if I actually have 2000 brakes or something totally different.

What are the difference in the '99 to 2000 pads and rebuild parts. Are the caliper pistons in fact larger on the 2000? I don't know.

RD, I have NEVER had to replace caliper seals, just brake pads, sorry for not being much help. I have ordered my pads direct through Go.Fasters. Contact your local dealer or Go.Fasters would be the best route.

Thanks

did you use geniune brembo parts?

I will measure the piston size on my caliper to see whether they are the same size mines a 98 'sixdays' model with brembo's

I ordered the parts from go fasters. They were in GAS GAS sealed bags with part # stickers on them. So, are they genuine Brembo???

If all 2000 and up have Nissan brakes that would explain why the part numbers are all different.

I have ordered all parts for this bike through gofasters. I don't have a GAS GAS dealer within a days drive of me. I will go to the nearest KTM dealer and see if I can locate something there, if they share some older bike parts. The KTM dealer sucks though, has a ton of new bikes on the floor, but doesn't even stock most basic parts. All parts must be ordered, I hate them.

Thanks Guys
