Advice needed.

Its looking likely that i will be moving to UAE Dubai, before christmas.

Im after advice from the collective on wether to take my bike Ec300 which i have spent alot of time and money setting up to suit me which i would never regain back if i sell it.

The bike of choice from visiting various forums and talking to people out there is either a crf450 or a ktm 450sx both KTM and Honda have dealerships so parts from them wouldnt be a problem and you can pick up a new 2010 for ?3500 as there is no tax to pay so bikes are cheap.

My only concern is that i dont particularly want to be running a heavy fourstroke and the associated cost when it goes bang. Having said that if running a 2stroke in heavy sand is not a goer then i will go back to fourstrokes.

This is the sort of terrain i would be riding.

I am also considering the availabilty of parts for the gasser, as everything from wheel bearings to a gasket and probably sparkplugs would have to be imported.

Will any of the dealers on here be willing to ship to dubai?

So what do you lot think? can a 2 stroke be setup to go well in dunes?

If they aren't going to spank you too hard with taxes for bringing the bike in, you should keep it. A 300 can be lots of fun in deep sand.

I dont think that there are any taxes fro bringing the bike in, it would just be the hassle of registering it. Which i gather can be very tricky.

2 strokes are much easier to ride in the sand. You don't have the engine braking like a 4 stroke making the front tire dive into the sand.

find a friend and store the GG. Buy a Honda when you get there and dump it when you leave. Sand ruins bikes. Just my 2cents.

Good point about sand being tough on bikes. One weekend at Southwick requires almost a full tear down just to get the sand cleaned out. And yet, somehow I can't wait to go back. It's one of the few environments where I can really use all the power my 300 makes for more than brief spurts.

speaking of which...
Southwick National race is on TV this weekend BTW. Also streaming some or all on Allisports.com I think.
Nice tight points race. Check your local listings.

Good point about the sand getting in everywhere, is it advisable to run a minimum amount of grease in the bearings and on the axles?

Leaning towards selling the gasser and getting a 450 of some description when I get there, and then buy a new gasgas when I come back in a few years.

think the 4t will be better, fit a safari tank and go on long belting "dakar" trips.

if you stick with the GG i am sure that gofasters will ship there, i think they can ship anywhere that does not have a GG dealer

If your first love is your Gaser I would tend to agree with most so far. Store you GG buy a thumper when you get there have your way with it. Then sale it when you return. JMO.

Check out this months Dirt Rider. A guy shipped a KTM APO to Saudi. Not sure if something APO-like is an option for you in the UK. Cost him $500 w/ insurance. In 2 weeks he had 7 boxes and assembled it.

Parts wise, leave a deposit with your favorite dealer. When you need something, they'll ship it to you and deduct it from your account.
