AFE Air filters

I just read a full page ad in DR about the AFE aries AE2 air filter system. I'm very interested. My least favorite dirt bike chore is cleaning air filters. A paper filter would be sweet. No oil mess. With the benefit of long lasting protection.

I talked to an AFE rep. They have a synthetic fiber dry filtering material, not paper. He was not able to answer my question of % filtering efficiency with the standard SAE test. He did say they stop all particles larger than 1.5 microns.

They will be available later in the year (summer/fall) for about $70.

NoToil

My least favorite dirt bike chore is cleaning air filters. ... No oil mess.

I switched to NoToil and will never go back. Take out the dirty filter, throw it in a bucket of warm water with the NoToil soap, wash by hand, dump it down the sink, let dry, re-oil. Of course this is assuming the filter in question was first oiled with NoToil.

Seriously, no harsh chemicals, bio-degradeable, no mess. You just have to use their 3 part system: filter oil, soap, and rim grease.

I keep 2 filters for each of my bikes. That way I've always got a fresh, dry clean filter ready to go while my other one is drying out.

I use NoToil in the washing machine on gentle. They come out like new and that spin gets them pretty dry. Then in the dryer with no heat. Couldn't be easier.

No Toil. Batch clean/prep, store in plastic bags or Tupperware.

I have an Amsoil synthetic fiber filter on my VRod, I'll bet its the same stuff. Works great, but street is a lot different than off road. What happens when they get wet?

The No Toil cleans up perfectly with Oxyclean I get at Cosco. I use blue axle grease on the lip what doesn't wipe off washes out easy enough. I use the Oxyclean diluted in water and simple green to wash the bike.

I see a lot of recommendations for NoToil here, but one of the biggest bike pros i know, eddie over on thumpertalk turned me on to PJ-1 spray. From the stuff said here about notoil, PJ1 seems 10x easier. I have also heard some VERY bad news about notoil wrecking filters and letting grit into the engine. It aparently disolves the glue holding the filter together.

With PJ1. You spray the cleaner on the dirty filter, rinse it out in the sink, takes maybe 30 seconds total, the oil just washes out. Then just spray pj1 back on once you let the filter dry a bit. after a couple mins the carrier evaporates and it is just as tacky as any bottle oil i've used. I have tryed it all and this is by far the quickest and easiest.

No Toil

No Toil seems to always have a discussion going on as to it's effectiveness.

Do you see any discussion about Bel Ray or Twin Air (oil-based) foam filter oils .....? Hmmmmm.

Anyway- I've been hoping for the gore-tex type pleated element ever since
I saw them for sale for shop vacs at Home Depot...Dreamed of developing them
for dirt bikes but never did anything about it. Great ! will definately try one.
