Just waiting now for thumpertalk order containing Cycra Pro-bend hand guards:

and the DMP LED turn signals front and rear:

(the 'E' ones, top right..like the spade shape)

Also, emailed the Hyde racing people to see about a skid plate, and I will be all set!

I haven't seen a bike in a bedroom since I did a topend job on a RD350 when I was 19 or so and lived on my own ....:D

Haha bike in the bedroom because its fsckin COLD outside, and there is no garage here.

And im staying in a tiny batchelor suite untill im done renovating my house :D

I put the bigger battery for more reliable starts. It is amazing how easily she fires up with a really pumped battery. Also gives me a bit of wiggle room should I leave something on that draws power, because as some of you know, this bike has a kickstarter that is not much more than decoration. It is near impossible to start with the kickstarter.

And because of the slipper clutch its not even the easiest thing in the world to bump start! I guess just chose your gear carefully. If i do it in third or fourth like I would my DRZ, the wheel just spins, but the engine doesnt!

05 450 fse injector

I am on my 3rd fuel injector. does anyone know if it is possable to put a carb on this bike? If I did I would probably put my kickstarter back on! I love the bike when its running cause mine is street legal(sorta) Tom

It should be possible. The pampera 400 version of this bike comes with a 36mm dellorto carb.. It would be interesting to see how the bike would run with a 41mm keihin fcr mounted on it versus the efi.

The short fuel injector life might be due to fuel quality. Where do you buy your fuel? Not sure which country you are in - I like chevron or shell stations in my part of the u.s.

anathema;

Curious about the box mod.
What did you do to the battery box? Cut the ends out, lower it?
What's the model number and brand of the larger battery? Is this battery only longer?

Thanks.

wonder how a drz 400 carb would bolt up?? bet you could find a used one cheap enough to make the experiment worth the effort.

You could bolt a FCR39MX in there with good results maybe, but if you are talking about the DRZ-S carb, you'd be an idiot. Such a crappy carb.

Mike989: It is a 7aH battery that we have a ton of at work and I get for free, so this is what i decided to use. It is longer but a touch shorter height wise.

I havent lowered the battery box just cut away the sides and re-did the bunji type holding system a bit (mostly did away with it since the seat presses real tight against the abttery pushing it down.)

What's the brand, is it a common battery we can purchase in a cycle shop? I can't read the first word, something Tech.
My thought is you can't have too much battery on these bikes.
Thanks for the info.

IMO the last thing I would do is go backward's and put a carb on a FI bike. Find out why the injector in failing. My 03's had a lot of fuel run through it without a problem.

anathema, good to have another FSE owner here. Do those led signals wire directly into our bullet connectors? Or do u have to us some kind of device to slow down the blinks? I like the E's for the front, but would worry about them breaking on the rear. I broke the rear blinkers on my DRZ and then went to the tear drop flush mounts. They don't stick out. By the way, our FSE's have very similar motors to the DRZ's. U can glean good info. on thumpertalk on how to work on our motors. But we are worlds apart in the handling department!:D

I wonder if something is wrong with your battery or charging system, mine has never had a problem starting, even kickstarting is either one or two kicks at most, hot or cold.

You are lucky then i think metalefty because every report I have heard, no one can kick start these bikes. And the bike starts amazing if the battery is full, but before I found out the proper starting method, I ran the stock battery dead a few times. It is just pretty much toast. Now with this new battery, it starts within a revolution, sometimes two, even in -10 weather when dead cold. The other battery would too, but if it was dead at all, the engine would turn slower and it would pretty much never start. This is just a bit of added insurance.

Hey I am not sure about the blink rate, if it is a heat based blinker, I will just wire a resistor in parallel to draw the same current to slow down the blink rate. Or get an electronic flasher, depending on how the bike is wired. Basically I will just make it work. As far as bullet connectors I am not sure I dont use them. I use crimps (butt connectors):

More reliable :D

EDIT: About breaking the blinkers, Mine will be mounted way further back than the stock blinkers. Will mount them on the sides right below the seat (as far back as i can and still on the rear fender.) This of course depends on visibility because of the exaust, etc.

Nah you cannot buy it in a bike shop. It doesnt even have proper terminals on it, I used some spade type connector and soldered it on.

The brand if you really want to know is ultratech.

Thanks for the wiring info. When U get the blinkers done could U let us know how to? Maybe a pic or two? Thanks, Bob

FSE carb/injector

I guess no one has switched to carb yet? I am going in for knee replacement next week so I will have time to research. I am ridding in Hawaii, and I have been using 92 octane gas from werever. Usually shell. I am guessing I have 12 to 16000 miles on my 05 fse. On another note my 07 300 is comming in soon so I will be focussing on selling my 06 300 and getting the usual stuff for my 07 Thanks Tom

Tom, it could be something real simple. I wouldn't even think about switching to a carb. Mine's a '05 and it is spot on. U need to find someone qualified to find the problem. I think Harley's have same EFI? Maybe a good Harley mech./tech could help? When U get it calibrated right, you'll never want a carb again. Unless of course it's a GG EC 300.:D
