Best handguard?Bark busters on the market?

. . . We like short bars. . . . .

Here are my 2011's from the seat. See how they taper in toward the bars center.

I see no trees! Why do you cut your bars down?

Never mind answering that I'm joking I'm sure you ride in trees. I live in the northeast and don't cut my bars down, so that pic just stood out to me. :D

As far as mounts go, I never really worried about braking that Fastway top clamp, but I suppose anything is possible. For reasons mentioned by Bandit9 I won't run the fork clamp mounts. Something about stressing that area makes me too nervous.

Ha Ha! We have trees, believe that. I live in the Evergreen state. My original occupation was a logger. Oh yes we have trees.:p
I cut my bars down not only to fit through tight spaces easier but I am just accustomed to less width. I equate it to try doing a push up with your arms spread father apart vs. more in line.

Nice work Rev. Very sano.

I cut off/shorten the EE style guards about the same amount I cut off the handlebars. I find it helps fit everything better, especially number plates and headlight shells. I will also use the piece I cut off the guard as a "shim" to get the guard another 1/2" or so further away from the brakel line master cylinder banjo bolt on the right and clutch stuff on the left, mainly the "Adjust on the Fly" clutch adjuster knob. (I'm still rocking the cable clutch, don't hate) The shim gives your levers more clearance b/t the guard and lever too. You only need to get 1/2" longer bolts from a hardware store or Fastenal.

Mounting guards and an enduro computer is definetly an art. It really aggrevated me when I first started riding. I always try to look at other guy's setups to see if there is a better way. Some guy's are just genius in their ideas and frugality.

Yeah, once you ride with short bars for a number of years, getting on a bike with standard width bars feels flat out effing freaky. I couldn't ride. Felt like I was doing wide arm push ups. I would just have to look like a tool on a MX track with 29" wide bars.... LOL....it might just work good going into the first turn though....

I ran across a setup by accident and really like it. I have used it on the last 3 bikes I race. Its Cycra Probends along with the Cycra "Solution Mount". I had one of these mounts in stock and could never sell it so I decided to use it myself and now I swear by like this setup. It makes getting the Cyrcas to mount easier and it never seems to move and i have hit it very hard. http://store.cycraracing.com/somosy.html I like even better than the CRM's. It gives you so much room for adjudting your controls its almost like not having barkbusters on.

Thanks DCG how does this clamp mount? Does it work with all types of handguards?

The clamps mount just outside of the bar clamps. I had to grind the top bar mounts down on the GasGas but they work very well now. As far as I know you could use any hand guards with them but I have always used the Probends. Once you get this mount in place it will not move. It works with all the bars I've tried them on including the Twinwalls I am using right now. Very versital and not that expensive.

Thanks for all the help, I stumbled across a set of supermoto Scott Hanguards that I had lying about off my old TM. Needless to say they are a bit scuffed up but I am going to try them out to keep costs down.

Here I go dragging an old thread back to life...

Does which of the Fastway FITS (version 2 solild handguard mount or version 3 universal handguard mount) bolts up to a 2012-2013 Gas Gas?

All of the Fastways will fit. There may be some tweaking of the guard itself to fit, but the procedure is in the included instructions.
I've used all 3 types on my Gassers, and we have them in stock.

If you ride in tight woods (I do) I ALWAYS cut down my bars to either 28.5 or 29 inches. Seems to work perfect and once used to it anything wider feels silly. This will make certain handguards harder to mount then others. I see ALOT of guys like CYCRA handguards. I myself laugh at these and have rode my identical race bike and practice bike back to back with same bars cut to same width and a pair of Cycras and Enduro engineering Handguards and IMMEDIATELY took them off the bike and gave them AWAY. JUNK JUNK JUNK at least if you ride in true singletrack like Akeley MN (National enduro's have been held there) With the Cycra's I was slower and HITTING lots of trees. The way they stuck out did not work for me. I have been running the EE handguards for quite some time and have had GREAT luck. The metal ones with the plastic add on spoilers. Back in the old days I liked the Acheribis plastic guards although they could fold in on a hard hit. They would deflect much better off trees and absorb the impact. Everone will have a different opinion on this subject!!! Good luck!!
