On my 2002 (I don't know if it's similar to the 2007) there is a gusset between the vertical spar and the lower cradle. The top end of the spring simply hung on the air gap on the gusset. Take a picture of the RH foot peg and post it up. I'll see if I can ID the spot that I am talking about.

On the the frame where the swingarm bolt goes through, on the round tube.
There's a hole for the spring to hook into.

is it on the inside or the outside of the circular pice that the swingarm bolt goes through? ?

The 07 frame didn't have the tab in the picture Jakobi posted. They just used a small hole in the frame to locate the spring. I forget exactly where it is, as I lost that return spring and never bothered to replace it, so can't help except for letting you know there never was a tab there. :)

Thanks noobi at least I know im not going mad..more searching to commence later I spouse

Was going to suggest where Bergerhag circled too. Quite certain this is where it is on the older Yamahas.

Noobs is right. My old one (05) hooked in behind some frame webbing. The spring evenualy rusted there and broke.I never replaced it and still works fine today afaik.
