Brand New Bike Questions

Thanks to Kevin at Motovation cycles in Maryland, I have a 2011 six days 200 with a few rides so far.

Compared to a ktm 200 and my gas 300 this bike will be a winner if I could only fix these two problems...

a) the bike has a sweet bog in the low to mid!- I thought it was the jetting but i am having a hard time cleaning it up, so maybe its related to something else?

stock settings were: 50 pilot, 175main, NOZI #3, a/s 1 turn
climate: 80's sea level to about 2000' and humid...

so far the jd blue in 3rd clip has been the best. we were running a 42 pilot before and have just now put in a 45 which was better but still a big bog on the bottom. once it builds up past the bog(it takes awhile) but once on the pipe the bike takes off.

b) the clutch seems to fade when under load and it also makes a loud whirling noise under harder loads. The clutch will barlely pull 2nd from a standstill recovering from a hillclimb. It has Lucas 20 50w oil in the tranny. is there a specific oil to run in the gassers? I usually run amsoil but ran out just before the bike arrived. Lucas oil is cheap here so I thought I would try it.

I have one last question, does the cd manual show how to retard the timing? I would like to adjust the hit later for the tougher trails.

Check the engine forum and possbly take a look at your powervalve. I know a dealer who rides the same bike and his jetting is spot on for VA. Maybe I can get the settings for you.

The bog can be jetted out...see the jetting database.
I think your issue is the needle it's too rich a setting when your throttling up...it's dumping too much fuel too Quickly.
The easiest way to tell is to drop the needle all the way and if there's an inprovement your moving in the right direction.
I had the best setting with a cck needle, 42 pj, and I think a 170 main.

Not sure on the clutch issue, they do chirp a lot when under a heayl load and the bike's hot.
But that shouldn't hurt performance, if your clutch is slipping a lot I'd pull out the plates and have a look...see if their burnt.

The pilot is too big, I run a 50 pilot in my older style carb at sea level, and by all accounts the new carb runs leaner than the old ones, I would go to a 48 or even 45 pilot.

Doesn't your bike have a map switch? Most of the time they are located on the water hose under the right radiator shroud. This switch retards the timing for you. Rain cloud for slick conditions, sun for good traction.

This bike did come with a map switch that works. I can feel the difference more on my 300 than this 200.

I put in a 45 pilot for a quick ride on Sunday, but still the bog. I think its a needle problem, today I ordered a ddk needle and a pv cover... hopefully the ddk is better than the ddl i have in there now.

Sounds like the clutch is just a GASSER trait, i heard a barnett basket will solve most of the clutch feedback.

Don't forget to ck the powervalve. I have seen more than a few brand new bikes with the powervalve open or fluttering at idle. Check it before you do any jetting

shell rottella t synthetic blend 0-40 or 5-40w is the best oil i have found for the gasser tranny/clutch. one of the few oils that allows most bikes to start in gear with the clutch pulled in. very little clutch noise, and wally world has it at a good price. what's not to like?

I agree. The Lucas 20-50 seems like it might be a little thick. Seems a majority of users on this forum use the Rotella, Amsoil (0w40?) or straight ATF.

I just started using atf this year and like it.Put it in my friends too and he says clutch feels better
