Hi all not sure posting this in right area but here goes , recently moved to norcal from New Zealand and bought a 2012 GG300 from Moto Connection in Vermont . Bike arrived then all the paperwork arrived a couple of weeks later , so finally got time to go to DMV today with all the paperwork to get my Red Sticker , when they where doing the Vin verification they saw the little yellow sticker that says closed course and told me that i would not be able to get a red sticker . Can some of you guys here in Cali help me with what i'll need to do as am a bit confused as i'm sure these bikes have been sold new here in Cali and have been able to register them . Any help here would be much appreciated .
Tony

Go to a different dmv or ask for supervisor. If that supervisor doesnt get it keep goin up the food chain until there is one smart enuf to know.

You can also try the CHP Vin Verification officer, they know there stuff.
I've had good luck with them calling up the local DMV and talking some sense into them.

Wecome.....get rid of that sticker if you can.
Load up the bike with all the paper work, bill of sale, what ever you have and go to the local CHP office, asked them for a VIN verification .
They should give you a signed off copy then motor to a different DMV. I am pretty sure i know where Garden Valley is,so your DMV choices are slim.
By all rights they should register the bike as a red sticker, TAKE YOUR MONEY and send you on your way.
If you still have a problem......send me a p.m. i know people who can help!

I was sure it is elegable for a red sticker , the dmv person was looking for a california compliance sticker or plate when she read that little yellow sticker . Do GG bikes sold new in Cali have different compliance plates or something to the rest of the country ???? . My 2010 300 in New Zealand had that same yellow sticker on it .....

If you went to Auburn go to Placerville or vice versa and lose the sticker.

I don't think Gassers are sold new in Cali for a 'compliance reason'. Clay will chime in I hope, but I bought my current Gasser from a Cali guy and it seems that he was changing brands because he couldn't but a new one. I do believe they can be brought in to Cali though, just not sold new....

Tony,
If you email me (clay@ggor.us) I will send you a copy of our red sticker compliance certificate that we pay the California socialists about $1500 to get. Also, Calfornia DMV code 24.010 says they have to register the bike. I will also cut and paste your original post to the people in CA who handle out compliance issues with CARB and they can pass it on to the CARB people.
Clay

Just got your email address from Scott at Moto Connection and sent you a copy of our red sticker certificate.

Clay, You are the man!! I may have to buy a Sherco to go with my GasGas!

Ugh

Spent many days in CA DMV's with employees who did not know the regulations. The regs are available on-line, I have printed out the applicable reg and brought it with me before to prove them wrong.

Also, if you are an out of state resident you can get an out-of-state sticker for 1/2 the price and no paperwork, you buy it in a store in NV, AZ etc.....I've done this as well. The majority of the OHV fund to maintain the trails/facilities comes from gas tax anyways.

I feel your pain

Just got this from the people that handle our EPA and CARB work:
Hi Clay,

Yes, the customer should not have a problem with DMV ? especially if his VIN is in accordance with the VIN outlined on the 2012 Executive Order. We are unsure why he had a problem in the first place and can only assume the DMV employee did not know he/she was doing. The yellow sticker is stating that the bike does not meet emission standards ? i.e. for competition use only ? which for California means a ?Red Sticker?.

Here is a link to the Executive Order in case you do not have it available to send to the customer. http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad...04distributing_ofmc_un2030003_199-249-299.pdf

Hopefully, the customer will be able to speak to a DMV representative that understands the Red/Green Sticker regulations. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Our red sticker certificate is available on line to view.

Update

So went back to DMV this arvo armed with certificate that Clay sent to me from CARB feeling kinda optimistic but not confident , and sure enough they literally ignored the certificate telling me it was irrelevant as that little yellow sticker had the word competition bike on it and was not able to be registered in CA . I even had there own regulations printed out but they had tunnel vision . So all you out there thinking go to a different DMV well they got my VIN and black listed it when doing the VIN check so i could not go to another branch and they had great pleasure in telling me this . So got there names and left , a little bemused but managed to hold my shit together thinking this will have a happy ending !!!!!. I then e-mailed Clay say that the Cert didn't even phase them ! , got quick reply saying leave it with me . But wait there's more , making coffee and my phone rings and it's the DMV head office in Sacramento and it's one of there trouble shooters asking me about the issues i'm having then asking me to send all original papers to him so he can go over case . Obviously that CARB cirt set off alarm bells with the lovely ladies i was dealing with and they made some ph calls , why didn't they do this in the first place . So i asked this guy if he would give me a red sticker , he kinda dodged answering directly but kinda said yes indirectly , so fingers crossed . If any you guys out there thinking about not getting a late bike , just take that little sticker off before you go to DMV . Will let you know how i get on from here on in , ow and am keen to go riding with any of you guys up here in the NorCal area as really know nobody around here with a bike ......

Tony

You can't imagine how much this irritates me (prolly not as much as Tony) because we pay to get the red certification!

:(

I still feel your pain, I spent two days in a DMV and CHP office knowing I was right. After 6 visits I finally got the Trials bike registered, dumb dumbs even gave me a green sticker on accident

This state is in bad financial status yet they make it impossible to give them money

Best of luck

J
