CDI connection problems. HELP!!!

I have an EC 250 2006 which broke down last Sunday. I have traced the problem to the connection on the CDI. When I move it I get a spark and when I let go I loose the spark. The problem now is that to replace the connetor I have to replace the stator assy which is expensive. Does anybody have any suggestions? The cdi is Kokusan. Which other bikes use these?

Thanks for the reply. To bypass the faulty connector the options so far are to solder cables to the pins on the CDI unit with the risk of damaging the unit with the heat and also if in the future the stator itself failed I would have to cut off the new connector. Ideally if I could find another connector from a failed stator or individual connectors small enough to do the job. I live in hope.

Fair enough.
I did have a similar problem on an Rmx and ended up heating and soldering the pin.In this case it worked but at the time I was in your position looking for a replacement so thought what have I got to lose??
Good luck mate,
Mark

The later models with the kokusan's like yours use a JAE MX23A connector. To repair your ignition properly it would pay to get some contacts for the connetor and rejoin the wire with a new contact.

The contacts are available through Digikey part # 670-1682-1-ND or let me know where you are and I may be able to send you some.

The old contacts can be removed from the connector body but it does take a bit of care and it would pay to get the new contact crimped on properly for reliability.

Cheers Stu
