Clanton Enduro 9/25/11

A little preface here.

I haven't rode an enduro in probably 3 or 4 years. The last one I attempted, I couldn't finish....I was way out of shape and rode like a spode. Early this year, I had a health scare. Doctor thought I had bladder cancer and I went thru 5 treatments that just kicked my ass. In June, they biopsied my bladder and found no trace of cancer. I really don't think I ever had cancer. But anyway, I have had a couple of checkups since and every thing looks great.
Oh, and I quit smoking in March.....

So back in July, I decided I wanted to try another enduro. I started hitting the Bowflex 4 times a week and really started feeling good and strong again.

So today, I rode the Clanton Enduro with the express intent of finishing that SOB. I entered the +60B class (I turned 60 in June). Well, I did it! I finished and felt pretty good thru out the event. Put in a pretty steady pace all day.
Rode for a little over 4 hrs. Was able to hit the resets with a few minutes to rest. The bike ran great, need to make a few changes in the suspension and
or tire department. Just about hit a deer on the trail...ran out probably 3 feet in front of my front wheel. It was hauling faster than I was. Not sure how I finished in my class. I think I dropped maybe 57 to 60 points thruout the event but I didn't stick around for the scores.

Anyway, I am really happy with my fitness level and with the 300.

Good Job Bukwheat, and I hate that I missed the race! My daughter had a softball game and all day I kept thinking the weather was perfect and there was probably very little dust, perfect conditions for that place. I did the Clanton enduro last year in the rain and I was just glad I finished, man it kicked my butt. I hope to run the SCCA hare scramble there next weekend. I can't say I'm happy with my fitness level, but like you say I have been pleased with my Gasgas! I guess I need a bowflex!

Great story Bukwheat. I had to miss the Hillbilly because of a 2 month old ankle injury that is frustrating me to no end. I'm itching to do another enduro for sure. I'm hoping to make the Gobbler.

Good on ya for the finish! I've got 20 more years before I can enter 60+ - just hope I can still do it when that time comes!
