Club Cadet Mowers

Anyone have any experience with them.....I'm in the market for a new mower and I like the swivel front wheels.

Thanks

my club cadet hasn't met my expectations in terms of performance, the motor was lacking in the slightest of over growth and the air filter would get clogged up on a regular basis and it wasnt even that dusty.the handle is the same and isnt fixable anymore so i needed a new one. i did some research on the mower forums and the honda(of course) is the consensus for the best but i wouldnt spend that much money so i went with the toro super recycler and am very pleased i did. this sucker is solid and you can tell its quality and built to last!

According to Consumer Reports, Honda, Troy-Built, Craftsman and Toro are the most reliable self-propelled mowers. Cub Cadet is the worst with John Deere and Snapper not far off.

John deere is a mixed signal on that front.. there is two lines.. the crap you buy at lowes/Home depot, which actually is the same as scotts, sabre, lawn boy, troy built, cub cadet and poulan and several others. and the good line that cost twice as much. You spend the $500-2500 on a low grade tractor and you get one,, no matter who makes it. John deere used to not be in that market. They bought most of the smaller companies and still produce them and now produce lower grade JD mowers for the lower price point also. Go see the $4-8k price range JD mowers, water-cooled multi cylinder, fuel inj, or diesel.. True hydrostatic drive with pto access front rear and center, and optional 4wd.. or just go get a good zero turn and you'll be happy. Just dont buy at a home improvement store..go to a equipment specialist..

I have a Bobcat zero turn, Highly recommend this brand. With the grades I must mow, other tractors would not.Not to mention time time is cut in half.HAHA.

I've got a 20 yr old Honda and other than a sticky throttle cable its been flawless.

I used to live on the same street as a cub cadet dealer. There was a big fancy subdivision at the end of the road. All the wealthy people bought shiney new CC's. All spring and summer there was a steady stream of mowers running down the road for service. My next door neighbor had one as well, it was a pile of crap. It nickel and dimed her to death.

IMHO, find a good Husqvarna dealer and buy one with a Kawasaki engine and the plate steel lifetime warranty deck. Not the crappy ones at home depot. Husky is just like JD, they have a dealer only line(commercial grade) and then a big store line(junk).

If not Husq, then Simplicity or a Gravely.

I have a Craftsman riding mower I bought new in 2008. I have never had to do anything to it, still on the original battery haha. We have about 3/4 of an acre with lots of rocks and roots, it's been pretty tough. I had a small Snapper riding mower before it that burned oil like crazy near the end, but in its defense it was probably 20 years old and never had any maintenance other than yearly oil changes.

How many acres do you need to mow? We have 2 Scag zero turns with the liquid Kawasaki V twins. Very HD mowers, tough as nails and mow fast.

I have a small Cub push mower that has been fine and mulches great. I know CC isn't what they were years ago.

For your back yard!!! My parents back yard is 138 acres....LOL

Of course they bought a Kubota Tractor to cut their grass...as my father put it some people buy sports cars he bought a Tractor they never did tell me how much it cost them, just that comparison...LOL

They also own a Craftsman, it's worked for them, they also own a Zero Turn some odd brand that actually has great reviews they liked it too. Just they can not do their hills with it, much too dangerous.

I think its a Bad Boy:

All the mowers have been bullet proof before they got the real tractor my mother was using the Zero to cut as much of the property as possible along the roadways, and what have you. It held up to more mowing then it was designed for.

Thanks for replying. I have a Club Cadet dealer in town as to why the inquiry. They also sell the commercial Husky, Honda and Toro.
My 15 year old Craftsman is tired.....the engine is using oil, front driver slips and has developed a knock in the lower end......she's done!

Thanks guys!

138 acres!! they need a lastec 120" zero turn! has a 4cyl kubota turbo engine.. can do hills like nobody's business!

I live in CO so their mountains in TN are hills to me, you need specialized mowers as they are STEEP, dual huge wheels in the rear. Huge mower deck in tow. Heck I think the mower deck alone cost as much as the tractors you all are talking about. I still hope to take the GG in August when I go to TN to visit, I'll get some GoPro. even with the tractor, they hire someone to use it to do the cutting twice a year. The 8 horses do an okay job keeping some of it down.

A goat will do the trick:D

If you can find a mower called a "deeZee" this is made for extreme bank mowing, two wheel drive, and its a two wheeler, kinda like a tractor sized rokon. and a 10 or 12' deck that pivots to keep the tractor uprite by mercury switches. There are a few out there that are water-cooled diesel, yanmar powered. these are good. The air cooled diesel is a PIA to get parts for. The company went under when they had a catastrophic accident on a demo in La county along a highway. Mercury switch freaked out and operator got kicked off, not wearing seatbelt? Apparently dropped off a ledge onto the highway then.. well.. lets say when a small company gets sued by La county there is no coming back. I've seen them for sale for a few hundred bucks at golf courses.. I go to a army corp. damn that used one to mow the earth damn on the outlet side.. steep and big..

I was a Cub Cadet dealer for 10 long years...very long. Don't go there. MTD is the parent company. We started calling them "mostly torn down".
