Ok ive got a 04 300 ec , ive changed over to 0/40 oil after reading about the clutch drag and to be honest is no better i cant select neutral .....

What do u check next and how do you check it ?

I did a enduro last week and a binned it a couple of times but the worst bit was trying to find neutral because it wont start in gear ....

When moving the gear change is great up and down the box .

Help

warped clutch plates?
steel ones or/and friction plates?

check that of oil doesn't change anything.
check the state of your clutch basket (the fingers).

good luck.

ciao, Hannes.

Should

I'd make sure your system is bled well 1st and then check/clean your plates, fibers . I run atf now(seems to be less drag) but I used to run oil and once bike is warm I can and could before easily start my 300 in gear. My old 200 needed to be bled every year to keep proper clutch action.I bleed my 300s clutch and brakes every season just to keep fluid fresh .
Stoby

Several things to check, many have been mentioned already. First thing though is check the piston at the master cylinder is coming out all the. Many people think cranking the adjustment screw in removes drag and that is not the case.

I had the exact issue on my trials bike and it turned out to be a fiber plate separated but even with new plates I had to adjust the lever properly due to it being turned in way to far when I bought it.

Start simple then go deeper:

-Adjust lever properly
-Make sure it has proper crankcase oil (amount and type)
-Bleed the system
-Check the clutch discs and plates
-Check the clutch basket for grooves in the fingers

Thanks for the replys people , ok i will bleed the system 1st check the lever and try that. After that i will pop the cover off and check the basket and clutch plates and fibers.

Cant do much with it ATM because the forks are away being re-valved for my weight and new fluid.

Also check the basket inner, on my '02 it was indented enough to hold the steels in place which caused drag. I painstakingly dremeled the grooves out & it got better, at least for quite some time. on an 04 you may need to consider a new inner &/or outer basket.

Obviously everyone has a magic oil & there is heaps if you search. Me I find Motul transoil std doesn't help things, but Transoil Expert Ester works well.

If all is well mechanically you should be able to run 15W-40W Rotella diesel oil with no clutch drag when warm, and easy in gear starts.

I would say the same as i run the rotella in all my bikes, but my 200 sure didn't like it. I put it in at first oil change and didn't go 100 yards before the clutch started dragging bad. changed oil again went with motul 10-30 synthetic trans oil problem gone.

+1 on the Motul.....been using it for years, my 200 will start in gear. Proper lever free play also helps.

I've had and still got the same on my 2010 250 2t, I've done the list, even changed the disks - need to check the basket now!

Is generic ATF ok to use o is there a specific weight etc?

thanks
