Could our bikes run on "one lung"?

Hi,

I'm new to water cooled bikes. I notice on my GG 300 that the rads seem to be plumbed in parallel (excluding the interconenction via the "catch bottle"). If a rad were holed on the trail (and you didn't loose fluid from the other rad), could you remove the holed rad (by undoing the inlet and outlet hoses, and then plugging them), and then limp home on "one lung"?

Basically, will the coolant system still work (granted, to a lesser capacity), with only one radiator present? It just may save me from walking out some day!

Thanks.

Dale

Yes, I've seen it done on a 300. You have to simply clamp off the bad side rad. It would be tougher if the left side were damaged and you had to be sure there was enough coolant in the right side. Going easy it didn't overheat.

The fairly straight hoses would make it pretty easy to do. A length of rad hose is going in my tool kit this year.
