cylinder de-glazing

I'm thinking of buying a new piston kit or just rings for my bike,i want to know if it is possible to de-glaze it without damaging the electroplating??

when I dismantled my top end to port the cylinder the bore looked ok no big scratches or gouges,but will it be beneficial to de-glaze it before fitting new rings or piston kit.

any thoughts??

If your cylinder is in good shape I would just take a little emery cloth and give it a 45 degree crosshatch. You can also run a diamond hone in them, but they are expensive and I doubt you would find anyone that has one. You basically just want to lightly scratch it so the rings will seat in. Some manufactures don't want you to do anything to the surface but I like to give them a real light 45 degree crosshatch.

I clean with wd40 and 500+ grit Emory cloth.
