hi, all, been really thinking about getting rid of the ec250 and going back to a 4stroke, reason being most of my mate have 4strokes, and when were out and about i find myself screaming the guts out of the bike, could i drop the rear sprocket to a couple of teeth smaller on the back end, just for a bit more top end speed, :confused: :confused: some of the rides around the area we ride in has forestry, and fire roads, and common land, majority of it being fire roads and common land,
 
What are you geared now? There are a couple guys on here with super motos one of which went to a 36T rear, (caltony I think) the other squeezed a 14T front on with a little effort. You'd have to go more than two teeth on the rear to notice a significant decrease in revs at top end. I think the bike has plenty of gas to power a higher ratio, just depends on how much you want to give up on the bottom.

The rule of thumb is 1 tooth on the front is approx. 3 teeth on the rear so I personally would just mess with the rear. Slocalspode is running a 14/47 and he mentions "comfortable cruising" at 47 - 52 mph.

14/47 = 3.36 ratio

13/44 = 3.38 ratio
 
Just off loaded my 4 cycle

I just sold my 2004 Honda 250X and I'm glad I did.
It was my first dirt bike and a great transition bike.
For the type of technical riding my friends and I do, I need to be able to blip the throttle to get over the nasty root ladders, rocks etc. My Honda liked to stand up and it was difficult to turn quickly compared to my GasGas.
IMO a two stoke is a better tight woods weapon.
If I were riding in the desert, I'd prefer a Honda 450X, stable, easy to ride, tons of power and lots of mods can be done.
And the fact that rebuilding a top end here in the states is about $1200 US vs. about $300 to rebuild the top end for a two stroke.
