hi mates .I have ec 300 2000 year .The bike is with 38 pilot ,178 main and N1ED needle .I ride a bike between 600-1500 meters and with this settings is terrible .Too rich from mid to top end at 600 meters and after 1000 meters is rich in low end .I think to put 175 main ,45 pilot and N3CJ needle ,I ride between 600-1500 meters .Thank you ! Cheers !

N3CJ will be too lean for your carb. You need some G/H needle. N3EG,N3CG for agresive response or NEDG for more linear power. I have ec 300 2008 but the carburetor is the same and I ended up with 42 pilot N3CH @4 180 main.

But my friends which are professional enduro riders with gas gas told me ,that with N3CJ needle and 175-45/42 the bike run very well .Also many people ride ktm 300 with that needle.

Perhaps your mates are referring to the later model carb which jets a little leaner.2012? and newer

no and with older bikes from 2000-2006 work pretty good .After 2 days a will try and will tell you .I ride between 600-1600 meters ,no at the sea level . Cheers !

I've just put a N3EJ, 38 pilot and 170 main.. I'm at 4500-12000ft (1400m-3700m) but most of the time will be spent under 6500ft. Clip is 2nd from top, but if I raise the needle a clip position, it blurbles and sputters for a split second while cracking the throttle.

The needle is just a bit lean. I'm considering an NEDW or N3EG N3CG.

Very responsive but power feels too linear. adriano.ro is right - also listen to Jakobi!

Very responsive but power feels too linear. adriano.ro is right in that the older carbs are a bit tighter, so are naturally leaner than later carbs with the same setup. Plug shows a light tan color.

Different sized fuel bowls on the older and newer carbs. Possibly different length intake too. Overall efficiency/signal is improved with the AS2 model carbs, and as such they require leaner settings.. most noticeable at smaller throttle openings.
