I have a 2014 ec 300 racing and it has destroyed the electric start one kickstarter and in the process of wrecking a second one. It seems to pre detonate and kick back on whatever is starting it. I have a s3 head and had the black high compression insert but switched it out with the red medium to see if it would change things but no luck. If anyone has experienced this or has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to these forums.

Check the key way on the flywheel.
Sounds like your ignition timing is off.

Does it backfire through the intake?

A bad ignition coil can cause a delayed spark, which causes the engine to run "backwards" while kicking the bike over.

I have the same issue, did you finde the problem? My flywheel is ok,in position,no signs of problems there. Anyway on this year,2014, I can't change the ignition timming.

Check all earth's and connectors. Check flywheel and stator plate alignment. Use full choke when starting cold. Drain float bowl if leaving for a long period of time, drain fuel if leaving for longer.

Kick back issue

Hey just an update on the kick back issue or lack of update I should say. My 2014 gasgas ec 300r is still kicking back and wrecking stuff i'm on kick start no.4 now and just reassembled the engine after sending the crank away to get it trued up.I think the kick back issue put the crank out slightly also I think the cdi is the cause of all the problems so I bought a new one and just installed it only to find the new one didn't work at all.
Just for fun let me list all the problems this bike has had so far.

-stock head failed
-clutch master cylinder failed first ride
-kick back issue wrecked the e-start system tried three different starters on it and nothing would work after the kick back wrecked the first one.
-wrecked three kick starters
-kick back put the crank out of true
- the plastic and decals are terrible it hard to keep this stuff from falling off

another fun fact
I put a timbersled track kit on this bike and for some reason the bike vibrates so bad now I don't want to ride it so now i'm trying to track down that problem.
My 2011 ec 300 was a great bike and never failed but this 2014 has been the worst bike I have ever owned.

Hmm,in some way the 14' model have some issue, like plastics, decals, starter, and other minor things and you can feel the bike fragile. But not all the bikes have your issues, just your particular case.. I hope.

But like how the engine run and suspension's part I don't think that, are really good. My 250r is very powerful and has a very good bottom end power. BUT after a good day on it,I feel the weight, on trail the feedback from the bike is nice, you don't feel the kgs but when you go down on nasty terrain, the kgs are there and you need to be very careful.

Try to clean up the stator with contact clenear and blow up with air.

I feel your pain, it seems some of these bikes are hit or miss for quality. I had a bunch of issues on my 12 and dropped thousands into the bike fixing things. Others on here though seemed to have no issues what so ever. I finally sold mine this year and am happy it is gone. The thing rode well but every ride I had something to repair or found something new that was wrong with it. With all I put into the bike the new owner got a very well sorted 12 though.

My advice is to ditch the bike before you go down the rabbit hole too far. Good luck
