S Scotty97 New member Aug 22, 2016 #1 Does anyone know what plastic the fuel tank is made out of on my 2001 ec250. The screws on my rad shrouds keep coming loose, so I want to bond in some brass inserts, using plastic weld. Cheers

You could also look at Speedserts: http://www.groov-pin.com/speedserts.html

S Scotty97 New member Aug 23, 2016 #5 Well I just removed tank and somebody had botched the inserts. One was made out of piping, another out of a dust cap. And they also missed with two of the screws and pierced the tank! Attachments image.jpg 119.2 KB · Views: 31

S Scotty97 New member Aug 23, 2016 #7 I didn't measure it, but I'd estimate the holes where the inserts go are approx 7mm deep, but il measure tomorrow with a vernier. The thickness of the tank where they missed and screwed into tank is only approx 1.5 to 2mm thick

S Scotty97 New member Aug 24, 2016 #9 I'm not sure yet. I have ordered some plastic welding rods, and some p-tex. The previous owner had sealed it with another screw and black RTV. Any ideas???

S Scotty97 New member Aug 24, 2016 #11 I'm not sure either, never used it before. Maybe someone on here can tell us if it's fuel resistant. If not, may be I can make a plug to seal hole and then use P-tex or plastic weld to retain it. I think it's going to be trial and error until I find a solution

S Scotty97 New member Aug 25, 2016 #13 Yeah, that's why I removed it, it was probably just the screw plugging the hole and the RTV being retained by screw.

S Scotty97 New member Aug 27, 2016 #14 Well I managed to fill the two holes where the previous owner missed the inserts and screwed straight into tank. Not bad for first attempt at plastic welding using a soldering iron Attachments image.jpg 103.4 KB · Views: 18

S Scotty97 New member Sep 11, 2016 #15 Does anyone know where I can get a new tank for my 2001 ec250?? Wouldn't mind a Clarke oversize one. I have tried the P-tex fix, and plastic soldered the holes up, but both start to fail after a few rides!! Its sunny in Wales, which doesn't happen often and I can't ride cos of my tank!! Gutted
