EC300 07/08 FMF Gnarly

I was wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this pipe(07/08 FMF Gnarly) in terms of performance and fitment. I'm wondering if it will fit on my 05' EC300?? From what I gather the 03-06' Gnarly is not a popular choice.

Thx
Mike

You'll probably need to change the mount locations on the pipe to fit your 05. I just mounted up the new Gnarly on my 07 EC250 - wow! They finally got it right for the GasGas. Small increase in bottom end over stock, but it still revs out just fine. And the price is right too.

If anyone out there has smashed their stocker, the new Gnarly is a great replacement pipe.

It should fit all the way back to the 2003 model year.

Gas Gas used the same OEM pipe from 2003-2007 then changed the OEM design in 2008 for more ground clearance. The newer Gnarly design fits the 08 and 09 models also and comes stock on the US bikes but should work all the back to the 2003.

After I get my RB-Designs squish mod (and top-end R&R), I'll have to see if I still require more bottom. Since I already have the LTR PV cover on my 2005 DE250, the Gnarly could be the way to go.

Who is a good source for that pipe for my machine?

Not quite. I have a 07 with a 06 Gnarly and silencer on it. The first rubber mount by the water pump does not line up and I had to heat and bend the silencer to fit right with the rear side panel.

This is what I was told directly from GG Spain. Same "OEM" pipe was used 03-07. In theory the Gnarly should fit but apparantly results will vary.

Rick, if your heavy like me 210lbs and ride tight with lots of loose uphill switchbacks you'll still need more low end. I've chased the illusive low end torque for 4+ years on my 05 de250 and have never found it. I've flywheeled, pv covers, jet kits, head modes, pipes, spacers, gearing, ect, ect. I have finally found the solution, give the 250 to my son and buy a ec300!!!!lol. good excuse to get a new toy.:)

CV,

I hear you on the 300. I'm now just under 200 pounds and hopefully going lower (maybe 185).

The 300 would logically suit my terrain and riding style (the 250 is all carboned up because of my lugging and short-shifting). But I have way more fun on the 250.

The biggest change was when I took the rear end from 50T (former owner) to 52T. That made the bike quite enjoyable on long uphills, I rarely have to use the clutch during climbs. The tranny is a little too close-ratio now, but I quickly got used to it. Maybe a 51T if I get more mojo.

For me, all I need is a little bit more low-end. I think my top-end and squish mod (maybe a carb mod) will put be over. Maybe an FMF torque pipe. What they hey, it's only money, and I have to keep this bike another two years. :D

The best mods for low end are...

1) proper jetting - presumably you have this

2) RB designs head mod - best bang for the buck out there in my opinion for the GG engine. It really improves low end and also improves fuel efficiency with less unburned fuel - what are you waiting for? ;)

Yes. It's rippin' down here in Phoenix right now. Not horrible up at 6K feet either.

Late June (when it hits 115 F) and I do the top-end. Not much riding then down here in the "Valley of the Sun." ;)

I don't think that's uncommon. I have a new Doma here with the same situation. My old Fatty took some tweaking to get that mount lined up and after one ride with a few log crossings all bets are off.

Rick,
It sucks in Phx from May on. WEe used to make several trips a year to CO for a cool ride. Also flagstaff has some great single track if you can get in with the locals, otherwise you'll never find it. You could always make a trip to beautiful Idaho and i'll so you some great riding. I moved here from PHX for that very reason 3 years ago, was a toss between Colorado and Idaho but the wife said NO to CO so here we are. If you get a chance come up and run the Idaho City 100 qualifier, it's a great ride in the mountains above Boise. Eat you Wheaties first cause it'll wear you down.

Speedy,

I think that the stock 07 Gas-Gas factory pipe tucks up better and has better clearance than the 06 and earlier FMF pipes, how does the new 07-09 FMF pipe compare in this respect?
