EC300 engine noise

fittal

My 300 makes a "clacking noise" when I shut off the power while riding. It doesn't do it when I rev the engine at standstill.
There is good compression - its quite hard to kick over so unlikey to be piston slap?
The bike goes fine, perhaps not as strong top end as I expected.

Should I be worried or is this normal?

Also the clutch makes a low pitched screech at times - others on this BB have mentioned this so I take this as normal?

Its on 08 model

Thanks in advance

Would the clacking noise sound like chain slap?
If so it could very well be this or the powervalve.
Cheers Mark

the clacking noise may be power valve slapping. from my experience, i only hear it on acceleration when i really wack the throttle and lug the motor (i.e. in wrong gear...)

does it only clack on decel?? that's usually chain slap...

power valve slapping on what? - is it a problem

I'm sure its not the chain slapping on the swing arm - its definetly coming
from the engine.

Had a horrible rattle on my 300...mainly when just getting on the throttle and loading up the engine.....bike has not done much mileage from new....stripped and cleaned powervalve etc...still there.

Compression was good, but pulled the barrell anyway and found excessive piston clearance but NO obvious wear on either the piston or bore....took bits to UK GG importer (just up the road) and tried a new A and B pistons.
New A piston better fit than the old one, but B piston loads better. ...rear of barrell stamped with letter B - does this mean it was fitted with the wrong piston at the factory ??

I know the history of the bike so know it has never had another piston fitted..

Anyway...all rattles have gone now......;)

There's an easy way to confirm. Overtighten the chain and ride down the road once or twice. Not much and not blast round rough ground. Don't tighten the chain like a guitar string just tighter than correct. I had this issue with my first GG and thought it was the engine too so worth being sure before going on a big hunt in the engine.
