Hi all,
Currently riding an 05 EC300 and looking at going for an 13 EC300E. The main reason is the leccie boot, but is it any good. Anyone with experience and willing to share?

Cheers

I always said I am not buying the 12 for the estart but here in Adelaide resale is hard enough for Gassers so I figured I would get it.
After now having the button, it is just so much easier and quicker in a race if you accidently stall etc.
Also , is very handy when picking through rocks on a hill and then stalling.
I have not had any issues with it and find you only need to give it a quick burst to get the bike going once hot(pretty easy to start by the kicker as we all know when they are hot).
If you try to start it after you have just tried it can just flick out and not engage but that is a rarity.
Hope this helps a little,
Cheers Mark

a friend screwed the electric starter on his EC300 from 2000. Some modifications had to be done, but the starter works since about 1 year and est. 100h riding without problems.
I can just recomment the e-start

Hi skidmarx,
OK i picked my mates new 2012 EC300E up from gordon farley motor cycles in guildford last weekend ,when we tried to start it outside the shop the starter would just spin but the bendix would not engage, it would spin but sounded a bit slow, anyway we took the bike to my place as we did not want to leave it at the dealer because my mate live up in biggleswade and it would be a pain for him,
So when i checked the battery volts it was only 11.60
Put it on the opti mate for a few hours and all is good,
Its a real quick starter and the bike fires up instant,
I think the battery had just lost a little charge because it had been sitting,
The starter motor has good benifits, especially for when green laning.stop start/farmers gates.
Im going up to GASGAS UK on sat to look at the 2013 ec300
And yes it will be E-START

See you on the plain

A bit off topic, but handy to know. At an enduro in SA recently chris birch's clutch packed up (on his ktm) and he was using his electric start to get himself going again on some pretty crazy hills - so it has other benefits(if you are not paying for repairs !-/)

I did hear that you need a decent battery and charge tio get the starter working fine.
If the battery is a little bad the starter will not kick out enough and the starter will just spn.:D

Yep thats it 100%

If you are young, strong, and healthy it's not necessary. When you get older, weaker, and have a bum leg, it's still not necessary but sure a bonus. E-start off road bikes are a bit easier to resale as well. Even youngsters who don't need them secretely appreciate them.

Popped in there last week for some boots and they mentioned a recent sale so it must have been this one.

..just wondering what the modifications were that your friend had to do. I have a 2001 and from what I've heard the cases have to be changed.. but if I don't that would be much better.

E-Start Problems

Picked up a new 2013 EC with electric start. From the beginning, pushing the button would only spin the starter but would not engage to turn the engine over. After jetting, kick starting the bike is very easy, hot or cold. I have attempted to charge the battery several times but it will only spin the starter. The manual doesn't address this issue and I am considering removing the E-Start assembly and battery to save weight since it doesn't work anyway. Can someone offer advice or direct me to a previous post that discusses repair or removal. Many thanks!

Call Gofasters, there is a recall kit with gaskets to allow the starter to engage. I had to do it to my 2011 EC 300 right after I bought it. Its a simple fix. Also, if you want it to work well install a Lithium Iron Shorai Battery, it makes a big difference having the extra power to extend the bendix. My works fine with no problems at all. :)
