Elliminating 'Flywheel effect' on my EC 300

Having bought a MC 250 recently, I can really tell the difference between the two bikes. My Ec was a 250, but I upgraded to a 300 cylinder.

That MC is so flickable and fast, I would love to have my EC motor run like that.

I have found that the Ec is great for slow climbs up long hills because of that 'flywheel effect', but I really think I like the quickness of the Mc motor better.

Isnt it simply a matter of removing the flywheel weights, or will I want a whole new Mc flywheel for my Ec. I think they should cross over between the two bikes, its just that I know nothing of flywheels. The Mc is a 204 and the Ec is a 2005.

I will also need directions on how to do this job. I dont want any surprise springs or shims to pop out of there and me not know where to put them back.

Get a 2K-2 ignition, swaps right in. You could swap the MC ignition just to try it if you like. Its either a 2K-2 or a 2K-1. (a 2K-2 with no lighting coil) The cases are drilled and tapped for both stator plates. You can then add 4, 10, or 14 oz weights as desired, spin on in seconds. You can't take away weight from the EC 2K-3 flywheel. The 2K-2 with a 14 oz is great lugging in rocky stuff and the bike never stalls, but revs quick if needed. I use a 10oz for sand.

Should be easy to trade, as a lot of guys want the higher power output of the 2K-3 for dual sport or night riding. I just swapped a 2K-3 I had for a spare 2K-2.

Let me get this streight....

My EC has a 2K-3. Weight can be added (4oz, 10oz or 14oz), but you cant make a 2K-3 lighter.

My MC has the lighter 2K-2 in stock form. Does the 2K-1 have a lighting coil ??. My EC has a lighting coil, so the 2K-3 must have the lighting coil, but be slightly heavier, hence the "-3".

Now about sand riding: I have enjoyed riding my Ec 250 in the sand all last spring, fall and a little of the winter. Then I had a ton of top-end issues and decided to upgrade to a 300 jug.
In the midst of that mess, I found a deal on an MC 250 that I just could not pass over. A few weeks ago I did have my first sand ride on the MC, and found that it had a lot of wheel spin and only pulled at peak RPM. It just seemed to rev out and want to be shifted again. My Ec seems to just truck along at mid to high RPM with no troubles at all. It doesnt need to be shifted constantly as the MC does.

In conclusion, it looks like I need to swap flywheels between those bikes, or just get a 2K-3 for the MC. If I simply swap, then the EC 300 will need to be shifted constantly (or would the extra 50cc help mellow the reving?) and the MC will act like the EC did before (just fine), when it was a 250.

I do a lot of different kinds of riding in a lot of different areas.
For Sand, both bikes should have 2K-3 or slightly heavier (possably add a 4oz weight).
For regular soil or MX, both bikes should have the lighter 2K-2.
I plan to do some mountain trail rides and might benifit from both bikes having a 10oz or even a 14oz weight available for the flywheels.

Right???

I still dont know how to correctly remove a flywheel and get it put back so the timing will be right when I am done.

The ignition differences are mainly about having a low or higher power ligthting coil.

The 2K-2 has the smaller lighting coil and a smaller flywheel weight. You can add weight to this flywheel to suit wants and needs.

The 2K-3 has a more powerful lighting coil and a much heavier flywheel. I don't think you can add weight very easily.

The CDI mapping is probably different as well. Try the EC CDI on the MC and make sure the jetting is the same between the bikes. The CDI and the carb needle are huge factors in the power delivery. The flywheel weight really helps me not stall the engine on my 300s.

I have the 2k2 on my 300, sans reed spacer, plus a rev pipe and head mod. I wish i could have it rev even harder but more importantly HIGHER
